What's Happening to TA???

This thread is a simple request to all TA's to please help restore the quality of the TA forums.

For the past few months (since I moved away from T.O. area), whenever I come to the Toronto forum to get some info on events (to try and plan my trips home), I spend most of my time reading through page after page of absolutely ridiculous arguments and flaming to find some useful info\discussion. It seems to be getting worse and worse and now seems to be the norm. I am so disappointed. This used to be a forum for information, friendship, and sharing our love of the music. In the true spirit of the scene, or what the scene should be. Now, the forums seem to be mostly hostage to a relatively small number of people who (regardless of intentions) end up causing flame wars or participating in them. I even see people I previously respected get involved in such silliness.

Here's a plea to everyone to please STOP the nonsense. I don't care who's right, who's fault it was, who said what which other time, who didn't think your favourite DJ is God, who's DJ pinched who's DJ's butt, etc. etc. etc. Even if you think someone said something they shouldn't have, just ignore them. Please don't post umpteen messages if you don't actually have any useful content to add to the thread. Now, there's nothing wrong with some entertaining\playful teasing in the posts AS LONG AS the message is in keeping with the thread's main point and written in a cordial manner.

Just my two cents. Thank you in advance if you truly take this to heart. Hell, if I were the moderator I'd even make this a sticky thread as a constant reminder. :)

I don't come often, normally I'm on another forum but that forum was already degraded to that "level". So this always seems like an informative place to go where people can help me. Hopefully people find better things to say or else don't say it at all. I guess there used to posting and then when theres nothing to post, its whoring time

Some great points and I totally agree. But I really enjoy the flame wars sometimes, especially if it's over a political issue. I really enjoyed the discussions at times.

The chillout forum and the political forum are too global and many of those flame wars don't have the focus of the more narrow forum we have here.

But having said that, I feel as though there has been a drop in quality in the ENTIRE TA forums. From **** ******* to Music Discussions, it seems as though posts have got mundane and redundant and totally repetitive. (Wait, I think in the past line I just exhibited how repetitive TA is now.. lol)

Totally agree with you guys .. this place has changed a lot.

i think it's due in part to the fact that i often notice that people here are taking sarcasm a lot more seriously these days and at the same time people who post sarcasm don't realize that what they are saying can be taken offensively. This especially goes out to highly politically/culturally motivated threads.

Toronto being a very multicultural city reflects the high amount of nationlism we have on this board. Just look at everyone's flag under their name. Unfortunately, this has also caused a rise in the level of intolerance that many of us have towards others when we don't always agree with what they have to say.

And finally, I've also noticed that many TOTA's often feel frustrated of the major gendre imbalance that the Toronto forum suffers from. What many of us don't realize is the detremental effect that all the fighting has on the board. There's nothing wrong with arguing a point, but like everything there are limits. We have to remember that TA's aren't the only ones who are reading these threads. For every TA member posting there are likely 10 people just surfing and reading. If we are to have new members (ie. WOMEN) join and have our community grow, we'll obviously need to make a good impression. All the infighting doesn't help that cause.

It almost seems like everybody today thinks so highly of themselves, they've forgotten how to feel humble. And then there used to be this thing called PLUR...
