and now for my commentary. ;)

i'm sorry, i just had to open up this topic - this is a very sensitive issue i'm afraid! if you have read 1984 or the like, you will understand how bad this can be.

imagine, first the fbi and cia, and now the "Total Information Awareness" program.

just look at the name - "TOTAL INFORMATION AWARENESS"

:haha: in those 3 words are the absolute epitomy of american ignorance, arrogance, and desire for world domination - all mushed together in a pure orwellian title. you can't get more orwellian than TOTAL INFORMATION AWARENESS. geez, way to be frank there with your intentions, america.

if you read the article, you will notice that some crazy ex-admiral is the head of the new project - "the perfect figure for the perfect new project." hmm, let's see - convicted of five felony counts for lying to congress, selling missiles to Iran (LOL), "falsifying and destroying information"... putting such a man in charge of such a devastatingly controlling project is no accident, let me tell you! if you want the "best" results, you get the "best" man for the job. :nervous:

quote:

The Information Awareness Office, equipped with a $200-million (U.S.) startup budget and a logo that shows an all-seeing eye perched on a pyramid, staring down at planet Earth, is at work under the Latin motto Scientia est potentia (knowledge is power).

this is so laughable!! it's like something taken right out of a cheesy hollywood movie, or one of thousands of computer games of player vs. Evil Domineering Empire.

quote:
Created after the Sept. 11 attacks, the office promises to build "revolutionary technology" to carry out unparalleled background checks and an assessment of someone's "lifestyle patterns," to try to pinpoint future terrorists.

you mean, control the lives of everyone!

what are your thoughts on this article and this issue? i think this is gold for a nice and healthy debate - it would be interesting to see the canadian opinion of it all. i wonder what americans are thinking of this? are they so blinded by the "good intentions" of their government - by their patriotism - that they're willing to throw everything away in the name of "fighting terrorism"???

btw, this isn't anything new, really. america has been going down Big Brother Lane for the longest time already. e.g. the "CARNIVORE" project (another disgustingly hilarious title for a disgustingly hilarious, openly flagrant violation of human rights and privacy laws). the whole sep.11 thing was just the PERFECT opportunity to step up the progress on this kind of thing, and even with - *gasp* - public support too!!!.. oh btw.. i guess the motto in american government is "if invading on people's privacy is against the law, we'll make new ones!". as in:

quote:

"As of today, the Attorney-General can suspend the ordinary requirements of the Fourth Amendment in order to listen in on phone calls, read e-mails and conduct secret searches of Americans' homes and offices," ACLU spokeswoman Ann Beeson declared after the ruling. It is unclear whether there will be an appeal.

thank goodness the madness is contained within the US (for now! and hopefully, for good).

i read it this morning and I was shocked (even posted it on my website). This is too far and crazy. 1984 was ing scary the first time i read it, but with this, the US are going nuts! I think the US need some kind of coup or revolution to put all this craziness to rest... but then when i think about a coup, I think about "animal farm" by Orwell:nervous:

One thing for sure, I'm not ever setting foot in the US and my fiance can kiss her honey moon in Hawaii good bye.

And to Brunette, I hope you take this seriously cause when people don't, and don't care, the government just does whatever it wants. And one day we will wake up and notice how our lives have becomes unbearable.

No, honestly, I don't care. It's nothing I didn't know. And America is certainly not the first one to activate this issue. I have read '1984' and know perfectly well that it's not just a story.
It's been going on for a while, it just became public now.. and I didn't see anyone do anything about or COULD do anything about it.

As long as you realize that...
