I read somewhere that those "wave-like" slipmates that have no logo, just a solid color are actually anti-static or something. Is this total bull? Or are the less static inducing then the "normal" ones like the ones that came with my Tachnics 1200 MK3Ds?
Acid John
the "wave like"....which ones are you talking about...

i have a pair of those velvety ones in black

they have a sort of wave-like pattern

i suppose they are anti-static, seeing how once i stopped using the neoprene ones that came with my tables, and i started using these...there was almost no static

Felt splitmats take the dust off of your vinyl and repel static or so it seems.

Plastic slipmats ( the one given with your decks ) should never be used for mixing purposes.

yup, they are meant to be use for hearing only not mixing.
DJ_Shockwav
and slipmats should "grip" your records
the only slipping should be between the platter and the slipmat
there's ones that esdjco makes that i felt are great
they have a rubbery texture on the top and felt on the bottom
here's where you can buy them online

Anyone know where I can purchase hooj choons slipmats??
JohnSmith
I got mine off ebay:

not sure if you can get them from hooj.com anymore.

anyway, i didn't like them, they were too thick, so now they are just decoration. I took the black ones that came with my techics, and flipped em upside down, they work great. they work great right side up to, but i think they look cooler upside down ;)

does anyone know good sites for lots of different slipmats? I am specifically looking for a transformers/decepticons slipmat.

No, when bought my Technics SL-1200MK3D each one came with a rubber slipmat and a felt one. The felt one is just a gereric felt slipmat with "Technics" printed on it. They work OK for mixing. Sorry to confuse you guys.

Acid John is talking about the ones I mean, I think. I had heard that these slipmats did a better job of repelling static then normal felt slipmats (I never heard how this was supposed to be true).

THanx for the info john.

I personally have no problem mixing with the Technics slipmats that came with my tables also. Is it really neccessary to purchase new slipmats? Are there any negatives to using the ones they give u on the technics?
