napster's filtering

well since napster has started its little thing to stop all of us getting what we want, why don't we all come up with some sort of coding thing for artists........
some stuff people already do just so they don't type as much, for instance paul van dyk = pvd or armin van buuren = avb
pretty soon almost anything that napster knows is copyrighted will be block and we will be out of luck
we could like post the artists and what we name our files to on napster so whoever wants to dl a song can search for the "code" name. i know this sounds dumb, but hey, we'll have our music!!
also, what do people think about getting a server like napster for all of us here on TA for programs such as audioGnome and the like?
i was just thinking bout all that and want to hear some opinions.....
cheers |

yeah, i used to be a napster freak! :)
prolly spent more hours on napster than playing games hehe! actually, memories of opening napster and finding 6,000-9,000 gigabytes of shared mp3s are all but dead...i'm luck to find 600 gigs nowadays :(
but...don't despair!!!! d/l audiogalaxy satellite now!!! yeah, i only got it this week...but have been d/l'ing like crazy :p it's a bit different, maybe not as many tunes as napster in its peak, but you can d/l resume on the current version & it still shows the bps (as compared to gnutella programs, where the host must specify showing time, bps etc.).
it's a bit trickier to use because of the combined program/web interface...you need the program running & can only find songs thru the web site. the main advantage is there's a heap of users on it! and quite a lot of trance music available...i found solar stone - seven cities (katcha mix), which i could never find on napster :(
well, hope this encourages you...mp3 sharing is not dead!! :)
p.s. yeah, i know some people on napster are changing filenames to have the first letter last...ie. paul van dyk --> aulp anv ykd...just an example, i don't think pvd is banned on napster :)
btw...audiogalaxy is at http://www.audiogalaxy.com/
long live trance! long live mp3!! ;) |

the name paul is filterd. you can still find stuff by pvd by just typing van dyk in the artist field.
as for napster filtering...there's a thread about this on the forum...search for it. :) |

| Um, there are alot of ways to find the tunes u want. I can find just about any song I want still on Napster. Just put in the title of the song or like Lynx said just part of the artists name. |

| i'm not saying i can't find songs or that i'm looking or tips, just suggesting this for everyone in general to do so that anybody (smart enough to think of that or not) can find songs by certains artists whose names have been filtered....... |

Yeah....I can't believe this has happened. Our type of music was definitely the last type to block though - a few days ago I could download it all. It sucks big time :(
You can still get some stuff, but I think most ministry stuff is blocked although I found some the other day but not much.
It sucks man. I hate it.
Kill the RIAA!! |

| Best Napster-alternative for broadband users is Audiognome is u ask me (I said broadband because for 56K users Audiogalaxy is better since your transfers can't be canceled). |
