i know a lotta of you guys on the boards just got into the trance scene within the past year.. and then some of you are from the oldschool days when you knew there was actually trance in the city before Guv ran the show .. :D
anyways, i was juss scour'n the net and came across a site that saved lists of oldskool parties that used to be thrown down here back in the Golden Days of the Toronto scene.. so for any of the new ppl out there check out this link to see the lineups that TO actually used to bring in on a single event! and some of the venues that are no longer being used when we used to have 10,000+ ppl parties ..
Things seemed very united back then, trance, techno, dnb, jungle, hardcore all in one event. now everything is very seperate..

Do you guys find that everytime you party whether its a big event or a regular saturday that you compare them to the parties, crowd, music, vibes, venue, drugs etc. from back in the day? Always searching for the same high and vibe? Now they are legends
:( :( :( |

I remember going to the Atlantis parties and early Destiny parties (back when they were numbered, #4 was my first)....
I'm not a "saturday" raver. I pick and choose my events, and go to maybe 3 or 4 a year.
The parties now are still good (talent, venue, etc), but I guess in some way I'm disappointed now when I go to a rave because the lack of turn-out (compared to lets say 4 or 5 years ago), or young kids strung out on drugs.
You can't beat the vibe of a few thousand people letting loose! |

| The first party I ever went to(not considering Spin Cat), was Ascension 4 or 5 at Industry.. Commander Tom was the headliner.. I never saw him that night though, as he was supposed to come in at 5, and I left at 4:20 or so... |

Back then ... ppl didn't care about spending 100.00 a night on tickets and party candies. B/C EVERYTHING was AMAZING !!!
Honestly wish we had events that would attract 15,000+ again !!! Those were the ING days !!!!
FEEL SORRY TO ALL THOSE NEWBIES that miss this ERA of TO ... luckly I caught the VERY end of it all !!! |

you guys pretty much summed up what i think of it too .. and you can even ask Swamper himself i knew he used to hit up the oldschool parties before trance adapted that very 'clublike' feel. even TA.com used to feel very much like a rave website when all the big parties and DJ's were being brought in by Destiny and Lifeforce..
i remember hitting up once of my trance parties.. it was Ascension 1.. yes # ONE at Industry as well (Durafei).. it was the first time i heard Binary Finary 1998 dropped live and i dropped my jaw.. :D
the way the scene is now is a byproduct of government laws. How ironic since most of the big parties now are held in a club called the 'guvernment'...
those rave bylaws forced all the parties to be held in smaller private venues and all the bigger venues. ie. Guv, cashed in by throwing parties of their own in the only accessible multi-room large venue..
unfortunately with this also came the cliche 'Guv' or 'club' crowd. this is not to say that clubbers are bad.. (we've had thread about this for ages on TA).. but just simply that the VIBE is different. it;s all a matter of personal preference..
But in the end the way i see it.. most of the TA's who just recently got into trance, without a doubt would have loved it partying it up with 10,000+ ppl at a (spacious) public venue where everyone was friendly, and was there for the music.. not to mention shared the same mindset..
thank you Mel Lastman and the Toronto Police for packing us into the WAREHOUSE on Dec. 14 to see Tiesto with no room to move at all and $40 tickets.. :whip: |
