Well I don't there is really anything is the UK called CHEAP ADSL...I've been looking into this because 56k you can't really get anything quick and it's unreliable and slow - and disconnects you all the time.
There area few options, namely madasafish.com and btopenworld.com (which isnt bt). Both do use bt systems and so are very similar - £40 ish a month and £150 installation for btopenworld and £160 for madasafish!
Both are basically using the same service so there is not a lot of different between them at all really.
Trouble is the cost and even after you've got over that the two top things are reliablity and speed. Do a search at deja.com you'll find tons of stuff mostly bad about btopenworld...some good not much though :( but how can u tell for sure? some people will have problems and whos it know if it is them or not......I can't decide wherther to go for it or not......is it worth it for the risk of a 1 years contract?
What you recon? |

I reckon I'm gonna go for it, I'm gonna look around a bit first though. I can cope with the £40ish a month but the connection fee is the real problem.

Ok...could you let me know how you get on please? I'd be interested in what you choose and how good the service & speed of it is.
Let me know! :) Cheers |

Homechoice
is good i guess..
its supposed to be at 2Mbps by the end of this year or so?
20 pounds a month isn't too bad for a 128kbps connection..
so yea.. |

Yeah half the cost - £20 for LESS than half the speed of ADSL which £40...trouble is that really thats only 56k modem x2 so probably wouldn't be that amazing. Might get around 10-12k/s out of it, which probably wouldn't be worth it really. |

| Another option for you if its in your area is a cable modem. I pay £25 a month which includes cable modem rental, it was free connection and i easily get 80k/s downloads. Its a bargain I think. |

What company is that with?
It sounds good!
Yeah the problem I have is that I can't get cable in this area - no cable TV or internet - it sucks I know. So really ADSL is my only option. I've tried to find out when they are doing cable in my area, but never seemed to find anything definite.
Where abouts you from? |

| If you want a decent listing/review of all the UK ADSL providers, go to www.adslguide.org.uk. The forums contain a lot of decent info about the various ISPs and what they offer.. |

Thats great. Cheers that site looks good.
:)
Do you have adsl in the uk then? |
|

Yep, got it as soon as it was available, last year.. Damn awesome, you'll never look back!
Pays to do some research on that forum, see what everyone else is saying about their ISP. Get one with low contention, good network infrastructure and good support. Make a good choice & you'll be laughing m8 :)
And your mp3 collection will never look better...

Yeah I want it but it's just so expensive.
What have you heard about btopenworld? What ADSL ISP do you have?
The trouble I have is that in the area I live I can't have cable internet and so the only options are Btopenworld, Madasafish (which is really the same anyway). I have checked out reports and views about btopenworld, but they are very mixed. Some people say it's good, most people say its bad, but is it?!! I have to sign up for a year's contract and then I'm stuck with it if it's rubbish! |
