AvB, Ferry and Euro-power trance in general...

Uhh...is it me, or is Dutch power trance getting kinda stale?
I listened to AvB's Gatecrasher set, and his other recent live sets along with Ferry's and the other big name jock DJs...uplifting melodies, millions of breakdowns, huge sweeping breaks, massive power synths...even though I love it and what not, hearing it every set by these 2 in particular...getting kinda repetitive...
Also, alot of buzz about Yet Another Day...is it me, or is this song dare I say...cheesy? Some male vocals, dress it with very pedestrian synths and a melody that is about as diverse as the NHL, slap AvB's name on it and you've got a hit...trend anybody? Personally, I think this song is selling on it's name, cuz if you ask me, the
originality and overall quality of this song is stale as well.
Personally, I think Tiesto's evolving style of tech-trance is ing awesome....it's so noticable that he is starting to sway away from that Gatecrasher anthem type trance. I'm not taking anything away from FC and AvB...I'm sure they put on a good show live...but when you slap down anthem after anthem, hit after hit on the decks with huge breaks every other track and 4 breakdowns every song, it gets kinda tiresome.
Maybe thats why Ferry and Armin can't be number one.
Just a thought. |

ing AMEN!!! It couldn't have been said better. Tiesto is so ahead of Armin/Ferry's game it's not even funny. You can trace in his sets of the last couple of years a rejection to the staleness of some Dutch trance while keeping up with the true quality. Evolving not just to tech, but to a wide plethora of electronic dance music. Music history as it did with the classics will prove that Tiesto is the solo Dutch trancer with a clear vision of where music should go. |

I'm not saying that Armin is boring or bad. The point is that some of these songs he spins are characteristically stale or not very original. It's a problem with some melodic producers being stuck with the sounds of trance year '99 because it follows a formula that has been proven to work. I don't know, I like some of these songs, but most of them are just not very original.
I think Tiesto's dutch dimension proves why he's ahead. It's a million times better than Armin's club eau imo. |

i know man it gets boring. armins recent set got boring for me after 20 min. the first couple tunes were good but after it all went horrible. i moved on from trance like this and now worship progressive gods like jimmy van m, sean cusick , etccc |

lol, i understand. this is the reason why so many trancers are moving to prog nowadays. but sean cusick is faaaar from a god :toothless |

Yeah I know whatcha, I just don't listen to much livesets, plus don't get to hear these tracks so often at local events...
It gets a bit boring for me as well, but that's just because there is lotsa crap to go with the quality IMO, but I still am pretty far from being able to listen to prog solely... So I just keep looking. And no one said it's a crime to play/listen to older stuff... Trance has a really annoying habit of dumping anything away once it's a month old. |

Euro Power Trance????
HAHAHAHAHAHA JESUS
that is the most ridiculous generalization Ive ever heard. Euro Power Trance! Not even Ishkur could think of something so silly... god I laugh just thinking about it :stongue: sorry...
Seriously, Ill be blunt. Most trance these days sucks. Maybe im not looking hard enough, but most of what Ive heard is the exact same gigantic melodic sweeping anthem that gets played back to back. Its like driving in a circle. A few tunes that come to mind: Eon - Pocket Damage, Ligaya, Jurgen Vries - The Theme/Opera Song. What schlock. Its so ing predictable.
Does anyone remember when trance actually ENTRANCED you, instead of making you reach for the sky, foaming at the mouth from the X overdose? I dug up some classics: old LSG tunes, older platipus stuff (madagascar, kalidescope, ect) ferry @ innercity 99, tiesto @ innercity 99 (the one starting with universal nation), older PvD. It revolved more around a steady, driving beat, synths and melodies woven in. It was great. I havent found much these days made like that any more. I havent picked up many trance tunes over the last 1-2 years that have stayed with me like those classics.
Sorry for the bitching and ranting, usually im more articulate in my arguments, but Im tired and in a ty mood. I know Im going to either be praised or flamed hard... I really dont care :D |
