How can you NOT love, or at least respect, LORD OF THE RINGS?? Yes, it ends abruptly, but that's because it's part ONE of three chapters of ONE story. I can't believe people who didn't read the books before seeing the movie could actually walk out of the theatre thinking that was it...no more movies. Idiots.

Anyway, I didn't care for Minority Report too much. Speilberg is getting dull these days. So is Lucas.

Ummmm, are you trying to argue against me? Because you just prooved my point. That is exactly what I'm saying. They took a story from a 500 (or something) page book and shoved it into 3 hours of movie time... no way it'll be as good as the book. So when you watch the movie, not only do you lose the imaginative quality unlike reading the book, but, it ends in such a way that you cannot possibly imagine what happens further in the movie. The movie made the story dull, unimaginative... to me it appeared to be another 3 hour entertainment program.

Hollywood is running out of ideas. So they reproduce old (Good) fantasies and hope they can make lots of money with it. Like Solaris, Spiderman, Lord of the Rings, and most of the other movies that came out lately.

They pricesley made the movie into three chapters in order to get the most out of the story. You really are not making sense. And the movie is very good.... good enough for it to be nominated for the most oscars last year.. and its just the first installment.

BTW, Hollywood's "Solaris" is based on a Russian movie "Solaris", which in turn is based on a book "Solaris" by Stanislav Lem. If you don't want to bother finding the Russian version of the movie(which is very good), at least read the book - which is very interesting.

James Bond 007: Die Another Day

The one-liners in this movie are so terrible they make me wanna puke! Bond at it's worst. :whip:

Lord Of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Rings is a great movie. Plus, it recieved 14 Oscar nominations.

I still don't understand why people see oscars as some sort of a representation of quality in a movie. Its as arbitrary as someone telling you Eminem is the Best singer in the world. There is no way justify that.

Yes... Now you'll start with the "but but, oscars are given to movies which recieved the most votes, blah blah." George bush recieved the most votes, does that make him the best president?

No, Oscars certainly don't have the sacred last word, but they regard movies as a form of art, rather then a lure for audience. So, it is not an appraise of fame and prominence, but an evaluation of skill and uniqueness. And I don't always agree with the final verdict, but there's always the Hollywood "rules" and because it is an industry where money is the only objective, these rules influence and shape the result.

Take as an example a race for the foreign movie 2002: Amelie vs. No Man's Land. There is no way "No Man's Land" was IN ANY ASPECT a better film then "Amelie", but it was distributed by MGM and Amelie was an independent French distribution. And in the end, who received an Oscar? The Oscars are an american corporation. They run the show.
