the government stinks...

so yeah, i been meaning to rant about this for a while now, but i just never had the time. the government stinks ass. it has to be one of the most corrupted institutions in canada. where else can people mismanage and sometimes even outright STEAL thousands and even millions of dollars and not be held accountable to anyone? sure, they're supposedly policed by the cabinet or their party leaders, but honestly, they're all in the same boat. no one takes heat for their bungles. how stupid is this system, where the true employers of the government (the citizens of canada) can only fire these clowns once every 4 years?

recent disclosures of PC documents show how our MPPs have been billing taxpayers for fancy meals, alcoholic drinks, and frivolous luxuries for their offices. this is downright theivery in my books. if i was caught stealing a stapler from work, it would already be a good reason for a firing. when cam jackson bills taxpayers for 7 grand worth of dinners and drinks, he simply offers an apology and is allowed to keep his job (after paying the money back). be sure that if i ever blatantly stole $7k, i'd be in jail right now. want more evidence? MPPs often hold meetings in posh hotels and resorts instead of using the facilities at queen's park. such excursions have cost us hundreds of thousands of dollars each year. this isn't only confined to the provincial government though. i don't have exact numbers but the federal government paid millions of dollars for rent and renovations of a building this year and to this very day, that office remains empty. did anyone get fired? nope...

the stupid thing is that the people who are digging up all this dirt on the government would be doing the EXACT same thing if they were in power... do you really think the provincial liberals wouldn't do the same?? gimme a break...

the examples of government idiocy don't end there, but you get the picture. these reports are especially painful when you see a good chunk of your paycheque being handed to the government every week.

its funny that when ministers steal or mismanage funds, nothing happens, but when you call george w. bush a moron, you're fired... where are the government's priorities??

i totally agree with you, mr.poopyhead, it's quite a disgusting situation isn't it.

/rant

as for the other ta's, you should be paying more attention to these kinds of problems, rather than something frivolous like "ugh the guv is overpacked blah blah" and relatively insignificant things like that.

time and time again i notice that no one here gives meaningful replies to the REALLY IMPORTANT issues (other than useless one-or-two-word post-count-increasing posts). perhaps it's just because of the nature of these boards, but i would think that as people (and in this particular forum, people in the same boat - in the same country!), we would be paying attention to some of the greater issues that are threatening our freedoms and way of living.

what, so this is supposed to be a funny thread now??

why are people in denial when it comes to something like "THE GOVERNMENT IS WRONG AND BAD"???? is it because of "patriotism"? what? do you just wish to ignore it all, while the vast majority of your income is handed over to the government, whose only real purpose is supposed to be serving the people, for them to spend on disgusting things like this?

look at healthcare.. it's in shambles.. what, how many hospitals have been closed down in toronto already? i heard recently that an emergency room was shut down in a major hospital? what the hell...will human lives be at stake, even, while politicans' pockets are lined with money for resorts and multiple luxury cars???

blah.. this is obviously a ranting post. hopefully, after reading it, some will wake up and realize what's happening around them.

Well, whether you like it or not, our government is using the power they have been given to enjoy their lives for as much as possible at our cost... Why do you think I am scamming them when it comes to Income Tax Returns each year (with most of the info on that form being made up)?! Because they are scamming me every single day of my life, legally too --> taking 30% of my salary, and then charging me another en 15% on anything I buy with the money I earn, which just made me realize that I basically work for like $2/hr (like most of us, after all the taxes and whatnot).

And what kind of idiot invests all these millions of dollars into a gun control program when the health care is suffering so much! Governments, what can you do...
failsafe
for the record the guvernment sucks too.
Mandrick_v

i KNOW how to spell GUVernment when i MEAN the GUVernment, =P... i know i'm a noob but gimme some credit here...

anyways, i didn't expect too much respose since this isn't the political/debate forum... but i figured that since nobody gives a rats ass about canada, my thread would go unnoticed there anyways.

i was talking about this with some guys at work, and this brazilian guy told me this joke...

a brazilian politician was visiting america, and taking a tour with an american politician. they were out driving around and the american says to the brazilian, "see that bridge over there? i skimped on materials and HALF the money is in my pocket." a few weeks later, the american was on a tour in brazil with the same brazilian official. the brazilian is showing the american around and says to him, "do you see that bridge over there?" the american says, "no. there is no bridge!", to which the brazilian replies, "100% of the money is in my pocket."

you think its bad over here? canada is probably one of the LEAST corrupted countries in the world... still. doesn't make it any more right, or provide any consolation for hard working joe's who fork over their paycheques to these crooks.

you're right. and the worst thing is that that is totally OPPOSITE of what it SHOULD be. it should really be the other way around - the government should be using its power so that the PEOPLE can enjoy their lives as much as possible. that is their function, that is why a government even exists.

see, a few centuries ago, all of this would have caused an uproar with the people. unfortunately, enlightenment/renaissance thinking has vastly deteriorated since then, replaced by capitalism, playstation, and mcdonald's.

i think people will eventually realize, but only when it's too late. "what do you mean 'too late'?" you say? well, just go see bladerunner. or read 1984. that is what i mean.

if you are genuinely concerned with the world as it is today, and/or if you want to learn more about these issues, go look up any and all of the following authors in a library: nicolo machiavelli, jean-jacques rousseau, john locke, thomas hobbes, aristotle (specifically _nicomachean ethics_ and _politics_), and plato (specifically _the republic_ and _laws_).

P.S. because of this thread, i'm starting to confuse "government" with "guvernment" haha! both suck. :)
