oh boy, where to start?
2002 was a long year and much of my life has changed, partially due to TA. partially for other reasons. Let me see...
(these are in order of time, NOT importance, since I am a person that cannot rank experiences)
10. Hong Kong. My first post on TA (or second?) asking for clubs. I got like 2 responses, but I ended up going to one of these clubs, had my first 'drop' (as they call it there) with a really nice girl that i had met there. It was one week after I had finalyl broken the 3:30 mark running the HK Marathon. I think that night (Slinky's world tour, some tracks i remember were Drax - Amphet.. and Faithless - Insomnia) was the point at which I broke. After YEARS of loving techno and trance, yet being held down by the lack to friends who listened to it, I finally had decided that I needed to go out more and listen to the music i love. It was also the point, when I danced out of my heart and without being shy for the first time ever.
9. PvD @ Soundfactory, NYC. The first time I MET someone from TA. I went out by myself, since I NEEDED good music and Liz (NY1004) spotted my Hawaiian shirt in the line. While I was kinda suspicious of meeting people from the internet, Chis (Porky) and Liz and their friends showed me that there are 'internet people' and there are 'TA's'... That night, I was very much hooked on NYC, clubs and good music.
8. Ferry Corsten in NYC. aka. "The Hawaiian Part II".. I think being recognized for my shirt by RANDOM people in a club was a huge thing for me.. I met John, Tom and Craig (not on the boards) again. I was going to come back for more
7. PvD in Munich, June 1st..
my first ever international TA meetup with suneel and Tranceliner. A morning, slept away in the english garden, a mediocre performance, some hot chicks and a sunburn.. What a blast!
6. Loveparade, Berlin. Propz to JP for helping me out a week earlier in Amsterdam, I think that Loveparade was another important turning point. Not only, did I engrave my screaming voice into the "PvD - Love From Above 2002" liveset, no, I went out to TECHNO the night after and died many deaths.. plus I noticed that 'stuff' in europe is much much stronger than in the US.. I was f00ked for 3 days afterwards. Mad propz to Proxi, JP, PatMcGroin, Helen_K and the others that I did or did not meet. Especially that ONE guy, who wore a "Dorian Gray" shirt and asked me if i was on TA, but i never caught his name, sorry :(
oh and Linz, you know Linz, don't cha
5. Chris Liebing at U60, while There were NO TA's around, and the night had started like CRAP, I ended up having fun at the U for the first time ever. I went into the club early that night, for DJ Rush live! and Umek and many many more, but Rush broke off his liveset and Umek spun the most boring stuff EVER, so I went home at 4 am, dissatisfied for the 3rd time, thinking "ok, 3 BAD nights in a row, the U isn't my club", just to return at 9 am for Chris Liebing.
I must say, Chris pointed out (musically) that I can have fun, TOTALLY straight. I had never danced as energetically as that day. One hour was all it took for my night (morning?) to turn from 'complete ' to AWESOME.
4. Nature One 2002, while missing ALL TA's, I met some other people (and boy, do I have a hard time meeting people) and had my first Sven Vaeth "what the doctor ordered" experience.
I got sick that weekend, I was freezing my ass off and I was annoyed at a lot of people, yet it was probably the BEST party weekend to this day. And the best live performance in my life: Vitalic. No matter what anyone says, but a 45 minute remix of all vitalic tracks, constantly revisiting the "Poney Ep Pt.2" theme is just incredible. when Vitalic came one, I was DEAD beat, my feet were killing and i had to pee like a racehorse.. I was about to leave.. and never made it off the dancefloor for the next 50 minutes.. I gotta say, MAD MAD MAD propz. Also, I found out, mint gum + strawberry lolli-pop == 0wn@g3.
3. Chris Liebing at Baktun, I had waited for that ALL Fall long. He made my night and then some. Talking to him -he is down to earth- the small club, weeknight experience.. DAMN DAMN DAMN! I cannot believe the fun I had that night. And one piece of advise, NEVER leave early, when Chris is spinning, the last 30 mins, took it out of me! what a reward for running my 3:08, Boston qualifying Marathon just over a week before. Chris, thanks again. New York, I love you!
2. PvD @ Roxy, Nov 1st. Meeting over 40 TA's was insane. Especially, finally, I met f0xxxy and -more or less- RubyRiva. f0x, forgetting his Vinyls at my place wasn't as cool, and getting sick at the PvD show neither. Honestly, I hated roxy from 5-8:30 am and i just wanted to go home. Yet I was happy to meet all the cool TA's.
1. PvD @ Arc, THAT is what Trance has to sound like. Guys and Gals, there was VIBE, TA's and a good PvD set to make my night! Hell yeah. I hung out a little more with Suneel, who is the only TA I have seen on both sides on the atlantic ;)
He, PvD, made me like Tance again!
0. Since it will occur over and over again:
TRANCEADDICT.COM/forum
I gotta say, my life wouldn't be the same without this page and the people on these forums. I honestly believe that there is NO OTHER PLACE on the web, where there are this many cool people. If any TA person would ever require my help, I would not have to think for a second to answer "yes, I will do the best I can".
Thanks Swamper for making this and thanks to all of you for being here. I will not name anyone personally, since I am sure that I would forget people. You know who you are anyways, don't you ;) |

OMG 2002 was a great year for myself and others. Most of the things that were excellent have already been mentioned, but since they were so great, its my turn to do some shout outs! :D
In no particular order, as all these events are on a par with one another...
LOVE PARADE 2002
This was probably one of the first festivals that i had throughly enjoyed in my life. Other festivals i had been to previously were NYE @ the millenium dome 2001, and Love Parade UK 2000, but it is only now that i fully appreciate the events. I was eager to go to Germany to meet many people. I first started off by meeting Alex (Evil_Bastard) and we helped each other out with accomodation and other stuff. A big thank you to DJ_Dawn and his gf for letting us stay at his house while we sorted things out. At this fantastic event i met soooo many TA's from all corners of the earth. We had Helen from Oz, Flo and Greg from the US, Josta, Andreas and JP and friends from the Netherlands and of course, the German TA's, NetX, Trancegiant, and the others (sorry i cant remember all of you guys :) It just goes to show that this online community is like a family, even in real life! Of course having a massive 55 hour rave also helped :p Flo, u are a star for staying with me and Alex throughout the whole thing. Helen, u r one lucky wild child, and of course a big thank you, again to everyone for making the weekend a very memorable one. For more of the story ---> http://www.tranceaddict.com/forums/...ade+2002+report
The next big thing in the summer that i did was going to Gods Kitchen Global Gathering. My first preconceptions were that i would finally meet the famous UKTA's but it turned out to be more than that. I found out that many other TA's from the other side of the world were planning to come to the UK for this festival. I decided to help out with travel tickets, for the following people: Ian (redeye), Daphna (Twilogodess), Natalie (Tatgirl), Izzy + Friend, and Boris and his bro (Elixir) these people are obviously true tranceaddicts if they wanna come all this way for a festival. When we got up there we met all the UKTA's altho it was a bit distracting with all the music! :( I would have liked to got to know u all a bit better. I would have liked to have chatted to Ste, Jeff, Spad , Az and all u nutters for longer, but I'm sure we'll meet again, soon hopefully! :D Go here for more reading material! :):):)http://www.tranceaddict.com/forums/...15&pagenumber=8
The final big event that i went to was Dancevalley in Holland. Natalie repaid my favour by setting up a room at the Amsterdam MAriott for cheap. It also turns out that Ian and Daphna were also going there too, so 1week after GKGG we all hooked up and had lotsa fun in the Amsterdam coffee shops! I have lots of interesting pics of Maxi JAzz, as Natalie is a good friend of his. Before we were off to dancevalley, we arranged to meet up with Josta and Andreas (Miss Proximus and ANtiphus) . Unfortunately we missed Ian and Daph, and we also missed the Dutch meet up, cos of them :whip: lol j/k but we still met lots of peeps, and a great time was had. :D :):)
More great things were finally meeting a local TA. It means we can finally go clubbing to Heaven/Peach/Turnmills together! Fiona is a great gal, big up yourself ;) :) Hope u have a good time in NY girlie!
Various funny things on the board have already been mentioned but I think that "The funniest lines in the forums" thread is definately worth a mention. Bondor, u r ing hilarioius!
The events of 2002 have paved the way for the things to come. There is the forthcoming New Years, and there is Trance Energy, the April GC NEC event, and of course LOVE PARADE 2003, GATECRASHER SUMMER SOUNDSYSTEM 2003, GODS KITCHEN 2003 AND DANCEVALLEY 2003! It will be great to meet all the people i met, again. And of course other peeps too. I would love to go to Ibiza and the US to experience the clubbing and meet the peeps over there!
Massive respect to Flo, Jan, Helen, Josta, Andreas, Nat, Ian, Daph, Dawn, an everyone else i met.
I LOVE U ALL!!!! :) |
