do you remember last year when we were seeing 2 threads per day always saying "trance is dying" or saying that we were seing the end of trance, and that all tracks where starting to look the same, and good old 99 etc....
a year after that we can say its stronger than ever...
the evolution is great
with traks like
armin - yet another day
oceanlabs
pos- summer sun
fire ice - close to me |

trance will only die the day people stop making trance, people burning each and copy of material that will enable people to hear trance, in other words, a total massive wipe-out....which in today's context, can only be achieved by the word of mouth or evolution of one's taste...period.
Phew! Now to the hot tracks...my top pick for this year is the underdog : Solar Stone featuring Elizabeth Fields - Speak in Sympathy [Original Mix] overall an original excellent piece of work with no similar sequencing from other tunes I've heard, brilliant vocals and perfect lyrics.....Nu-Nrg also showed how trance has progressed in 2002....all in all, trance has grown over this past year....Armin and his weekly A State of Trance radio shows, pushing the trance waves like a ripple.....
Trance DJ of the Year: Armin Van Buuren - based on hardwork, remixes ,productions and "always filled-up" radio shows...and not to mention, an energetic DJ during live sets :) |

There was a period of about 6 months, back at the beginning of 2001 when I seriously thought that Trance was slowing down a lot, and that it was not getting played much, here in Australia at least.
Well, from what I have seen, trance has really bounced back. Every major club in Sydney plays Trance, hard, Euro, Progressive, whatever, it's trance!
Our radio stations on the weekends now play trance, ALL NIGHT! (Nova 969 from 12 midnight onwards).
Finally, there seem to be more and more commercial trance songs being released and played on the Australian Airwaves, which are damn good songs, and in no way CHEESY.
The sounds of 1998 and 1999 can still be heard in new stuff being released these days.... but I think the quality of the polysynths and samples used in tracks these days are of a higher quality, and in general.. more modern sound. Trance has definately evolved, but in doing so I think it has grown stronger :)
Just my $0.02
Cheers

You bet ya! Trance is still alive and kicking!!!
Wouldn't like it if it was all prog or techno. Like to hear a little bit of them all at a party! (well not all, but...) |
