ive really come to like 'Airwave - Innerspace' recently, mostly because of the way it deviates from what i see as the standard trance formula. there are still build ups and nice bassline, but i really love that dark sounding almost tribal synth in the middle. the sound is just so much more intense than the traditional synth-harpsichord. of course the song has this hard sound layered with the usual lighter fanfare as well, but that just makes it a more complex song.
... so, question is, anyone have recommendations for other songs like this? with maybe a harder driving sound - but still trance ?
PeeWeeFerris - Genesis, and Starsplash - China Lounge kinda fall in this vein for me too.
