Just bought a SL-1200mk2, and need some info

More to the point, im not a techincal minded person, i just love the music...
I know all the basic features of the sl-1200mk2 but not anything to do with the tone arm adjustments and this one thin cable coming out of it... the thin cable is black and looks to be copper. Whether or not the guy stripped it back previously i dont know... ive been told it could be a grounding wire???
The turntabe itself is in perfect mechanical condition apart from a few scratches on the face which is nothing too serious... the audio cable has also been 'extended' and any info would be great |

this is to remove the "static" electrical interference u may get. there should be some things on ur mixer that u 'clip' it onto..
