Nope. It's true. Tekno and techno are two different styles. Tekno is a very hard underground sub-genre of techno. It's more likely to be hardcore than techno. Techno is more or less 'easy to listen to'. It has a way more sophisticated sound than tekno. Techno is more for the masses, while tekno is for the underground (don't take that literally please!). |
so u're saying that hard techno should be called tekno? that is the second stupidest thing i've read in a while... are u sure your country is not the only place where these two words are distinguished?? as i see it, tekno is just a piece of slang used to simplify spelling. techno is prounced "tekno" so it's just an 31337 way of spelling "techno" and i'm pretty sure 99% of people who say "tekno" have never thought of implying "a very hard underground sub-genre of techno" |

I don't say hard techno should be called tekno. I mean e.g. Thomas Pogadl and Andreas Kramer produce really hard techno, but that isn't tekno. That's still techno. As you said you can see tekno as a simplified spelling, but over here in Holland you also have the genre tekno, which stands for, as I said, a very hard underground sound. Tekno is more of a combination between the driving/monotonous sound of techno and hardness of hardcore. It's been played a lot at illegal underground parties! If I remember correctly tekno mainly comes from Eastern Europe, from countries such as Poland and Slovenia.
So, it's not just a question of spelling IMO :) |

and again, this seems to be true for holland only... which i don't think is very important for the whole techno scene because the absolute majority consider techno and tekno the same thing... it's like with hardcore: what is called "terror" in holland is "speedcore" in the us and canada (which roxx by the way, but that's a different topic)... so calling it a different name does not automatically create a new sub-genre. |

I always classed Mr Picotto as a techno Dj/producer anyway.
But he does really have his own style of techno within the genre. |
exactly, cause picotto sets sure don't sounds like Chris liebing would spin, it's really quite different. But no dought it's a hell of alot closer to techno then trance. |

Just a few things
Firstly i didnt actually write this article its from a genuine club listings mag.
Secondly wether he be techno or not everytime he plays dublin its just hardcore cheesy trance cos unfortunatly he's catering for the younger more commercially minded crowd.
It's a simple fact that dj's will change there style depending and where and who their playing to. It makes sense |

Nothing wrong with Techno... but it's quite the talent to make a techno set seem non-monotonous - not many can pull that off.
Mauro has played mostly Techno in his sets the last 2 times I saw him this year.... |

There is no hardness about hardcore, it's just fast and cheesy. And I believe that techno and hardcore are on completely different planes, they are not related nor are they interchangeable. The only people I've met who like techno hate hardcore. IMO the idea of combining the two would be mutually destructive, it'd be like combining Celine Dion with Chris Liebing, you would just ruin both genres for their respective crowds.
If there is such a mysterious underground world of super hard techno with a different name that we've never heard of, then give us the names of some DJs so we can have a listen and verify that for ourselves. Until then, I conclude that "Tekno" is just a way of spelling it to make it look a bit 'cooler'. If you combined hard techno with hardcore you would just make the techno less hard! |

Just to set the record straight.
Picotto is not a techno DJ, nor does he want to be pigeon holed as one. Picotto's theory on music is that of which he plays good QUALITY music, and just now and over the last couple of years he has found that consistant quality in the techno scene. He will play anything from down beat house to prog to stomping techno, he doesn't have boundaries to his music style, all he does is play GOOD MUSIC! This is why people have so much to talk about when discussing his sound.. It varies that much that you cant pinpoint it...:eyespop: |
