question about remixing

ok... so i was wondering how remixing a song is done....
-how do you get song to sound similar by using different type of synths.. for example.... if you were to mix ligaya by gouryella... do you have to acctually know all the notes so that you can manuall replicate it??? hmmm if thats the case, ... that must be a lot of tedious work to acctually figure out each note of the song.
as u can see, im a newb~ if anyone has the time, a brief tutorial of remixing a song woould be cool =) |

I guess you should post it in the "Production Forum" section to get comments, cause there are poeple who annoyed by that stuff :p
anyway, i'm a newbe too, i guess figuring out the notes is the easiest part for someone who knows notes, while the difficult part is sometimes to make some synths sound the same.
for example, i would never be able to make that cool sound from bk-revolution :).... |

| 'guessing' the notes usually isn't too hard. as for recreating the sound.. you don't want the exact same sound do you? it has to be a little different from the original.. |

Basically it is changing the song to the way you like it best. Try to think of ways that the original version is lacking (in your opinion). Find things in the song that you would have done differently, and then do it! :)
ps- if you are actually thinking about remixing ligaya, I have a midi file of the main string section of it. If you are interested I can email it to you. Just say the word.

although i have only thus far done one remix, i have been told the best way to do it...
getting the notes the same is a peice of piss (easy) :) so long as uve got at least half a musical brain (if u havent, you really shouldnt be producing).. you dont need to know the notes off by heart, u just need to recognise the note when u hear it again :)
what u do, is take the bits u like, either directly use them, or recreate them in ur own style (<
there are a few things that must not be touched in order for it tobe a proper remix (although many artists just take remix to mean, 'make new tune')... the chord progression for example, keep the chords the same, maybe re-arrange them slightly or add lil bits etc...
when remixing, dont try and make the track sound too much like the original, that aint the idea :) the idea is to take the track, and make it your take on things :)
one last thing, i wouldnt try to remix a track that is perfect already (e.g. ive never heard any other mix but the original played in a club of warrior - if u want me), unless u r certain u have the skill required to do it justice, or have enough new ideas to give it that extra umph :) |
