yeah.. So I went there to do my performance...
I got there a few hours before I had to spin... around 3:30 or 4
The place place was empty !!! :( I heard that it was empty on friday night but not empty as that.. I hoped there was at least 50 people...not even 10 ! Not only that .. I saw a guy got beat up by 3 or 4 guys right into my face... like WTF :wtf:
I tried to forgot about all this during the DJ set of the guy who spun before me... we chilled a bit in the booth.. not far from the end of is set.. teh line out of the mixer started to everything up.. We were hearing strange noise and pop ups coming out from the speakers... It was really annoying..
So now its my turn... I do my first mix.. up a beat cause of the noise btu i corrected it in half a seconde.. so I got a little luck there...
Started with Jas van Housten - Heanven's Gate
DJ Tiësto - Obsession
Andain - Summer Calling (Airwave club mix)
I got warmed up after that.. I started to enjoy playing even if there was no body on the dancefloor... only my cousin and 2 or 3 people were dancing and having fun at least...
I dropped Three Drives - Carrera 2.. Now a guy from Level comes to me and say ''where gonna close the place in 15 minutes... (like WTF)
cause there's nobody so the staff don'T want to stay here an other 2 hours for nothing '' He also told me that the his boss wanted me to come back in a few weeks cause he wasn'T there to hear me play and he doesn'T know what he want to do with me but his gonna think of something so he told me to call him up... !!!
then I droped Energy 52 - Cafe Del Mar and finished with
Midway - Monkey Forest...Couldn't even finish the song the in guy told me to fade it out !!! DAMMIT !!! what do I look like now ?
All this for nothing.. all this spend of cash buying new records and needles for nothing !!!
On saturday I called the guy and he told me that HE doesn't know what he's gonna do but He'll try to find something for his club cause on fridays its always empty and the people is not interested into that dj competition...
What do you guys think of all this... ? |

it sux. you cant stop a dj in the middle of a set. (in monkey forest, how could they.)
i hope you got paid for the hole set, and i hope you will the chance to spin again. people like that dont like music, people or dj. they like money. forgive what you want but dont forget you are only a money tool for them.
good luck. and i do hope youll tell us when youll spin again.
the crowd will increase by 33%... |

| oh yeah by the way charlie why start ur career playing to some people that dont even know what da ur doing and when u have all these clubs in montreal .......??? in laval no one will help u get on ur feet like in the city, in laval nobody knows nothing about music, they dont care about u they just want to put someone up there in a dj booth but if they could put a jukebox instead beleive me they would have done it a long time ago hehehe .... it is all about buisness |

Its not that Morsy... I understand what you mean ... but I gotta start somewhere... To tell you guys this was my premiere... I had a lot to learn from this experience... and i couldn't even learn ... there was nobody to feel energy in the crowd.. no nothing.. I could have been playing song on shuttle one after the other... just playing anything and it wouldn'T had made any difference.
You guys don'T know how many clubs I tried to start play at and none of them wanted me... I tried sending demos.. having connections... interviews for new clubs... now a contest... and none of it worked.
I even tried to play at Fuzzy laval on friday nights where its empty every friday... just empty as Level's... I go to that club like nearly each week ... cause its next to my house and i know a lot of people from there.... and the owner prefered to do a hip hop night cause thats what hot for the moment (for him)...
result of it ... still empty like a caverne... I don't know what he's risking by taking a trance DJ ... what is he gonna loose ? nothing !! there'Ms nobody on fridays.. anyways..
at least Level let me played what I wanted... and yes I got paid for an hour... at least.. but Its not the money that I wanted... I wanted to show what I can do.
I understand you guys went to Ben Sims.. I would have done the same thing... :toothless but still with an empty crowd... don't I deserve a chance ?I'm not asking Biggy to let me play at Aria... cause you gotta know one thing.. people won't come to see me... what do you guys do with a flyer where there's all dj names that you never heard of ? ... in the garbage ! right ? It business.
It hard to find a place to spin where they let you be yourself... play what you want... I even did private parties with a friend for youngsters... 17-18... My friend plays the hip hop and my the techno... as soon as I drop a beat.. like it only takes 15 secondes that all the people in the place come to the dj booth asking for hip hop... liek open your mind to something new you never know if you're gonna like it or not.
anyways... The guy from Level said he'll think of something for me... we'll see if its gonna happen or not. else I'll keep you in touch to tell you where I'm gonna spin up again... I hope |

Start a dj career is not really easy.
There is more and more people who want to be A DJ now!
I have tons of demands every weeks from new dj's who want to play Aria and sometimes it's difficult for me to say ''no'' because I can see they are working hard.
Charlie, any musiciens career is not easy and if you really want to be a popular dj, you need to work harder.
Some tips:
1. Have some promotion of you on internet (sets, pages etc..).
2. Ask out of town clubs.
3. Ask any promoters (raves also).
4. Go to see some electronic radio shows.
5. Try to play ''live'' on internet.
6. You need to know people who work in record shops (they will maybe help you).
And many many more little things can make your career grow-up a bit faster. |
