Hey all.
I'm a little frustrated. It's because of my DJ-Name. Maybe it's not the coolest, but I've been using it for three years now and have played at various clubs, at the Loveparade and with DJs like Taucher, Kai Tracid, Gary D., Cosmic Gate...
I just got my own domain djdawn.de and a week after it was online, I get an e-mail from some f#*'head who tells me he has copyrighted "DJ Dawn" and it is now all rights reserved and I can't use it anymore and have to take the site offline. S**t!
I don't know what to do. I need a new name, but how are people gonna know it's me? It's not that I'm really well-known or anything, but in North-Germany there are some people who like my sound and come to see me play.
Please help, any suggestions for cool names are welcome. (Maybe T.A.F.K.A.D. :))The only thing I came up with is having it say both names (new and old) on the flyers for a couple of months.
Copyright sucks ! (When it's not yours...) |

Damn thats 2 bad for you...
"The Artist Formally Known As Djdawn" is an option :)
But maybe "Prince" will send you an email that he has Copyright on that kinda names...
Good luck with it :) |

That sucks indeed DJ-Dawn, I got a new name Dj-DaMn
on the flyers:
Dj-Damn aKa dj-dawn
cool huh? |

lol, DJ Damn ! :D
not bad, I came up with another one:
DJ Dorn
It's German for Thorn and is pronounced just like Dawn in english, so when you read it, there's no difference...
well, I'm gonna have to do some brainstorming with a couple of friends. BTW, does anyone know where you can check for names that are allready copyrighted so this crap won't happen to me again ? |

I think you should just add a letter to the word dawn like
DJ Dawnn
DJ Dawwn
DJ Daawn
My guess most of your fans will recognize you easiest by just change your name as little as possible. Everyone will still pronouns it the same.
Or maybe DJ Dawns (dawns sounds almost like Dance) and with the s on the end means that something is owned by dawn.
This all might sound stupid, I hope I gave you some more to think about, some thoughts in your head.

| I think that DJ Dorn sounds pretty sweet... I mean, not quite as good, but it definitely works... Besides, when someone says your name over the speakers at an event/club, it will sound like DJ Dawn neways.... Just my opinion |

Are you really really sure the guy who send you an email is right?? he really "bought" it etc.. Just check "dont know the words for it" just check the stuff you need to check and go to the "kamer van koophandel" lol or something like that...
Check before you change yr name...
and/or try to buy the name from him.. my dad had/has the name www.hollywood.nl some people wanted to buy it.. :D When the price is right ;) |

| Like Henk said, check out if he has some proof that he is tha owner of the name, he must have some evidence I think |

| i totally agree with henkie. dude.. check first. that guy could be lying out his ass. and if so he may intend to buy that name soon so if you want to keep your name you may want to go ahead and try and buy it yourself before he does. but there are just a whole lot of s in this world so theres a great chance hes lying. but dont ask him to show you proof. he could show you anything.. but ty if it is true and good luck with your new name.. dj dorn is a pretty good alternative. peace!! |
