Some may disagree with me on this but I think his movies deserve an honarable mention. Most of Larry Clarks movie's are independant but feature some well known actors as well as some that arent. All together his movies are entertaining. Mostly all of them have strong sexual content, drugs, most of them surrounding around teens and adolesence life. I watched Bully for the first time yesterday. Setting for Bully takes place in South Florida, Broward/Miami. This tops his 1995 movie Kids all together. The actors, plot, and ect is better. Its a good movie but ed up. Here's a description.
Acclaimed director Larry Clark delivers his most powerful film since KIDS. Marty (Brad Renfro) is a tormented surfer who relies on his longtime pal Bobby (Nick Stahl) for rides to the beach and South Florida bars despite vicious abuse. But when Bobby turns his unwanted attention to Marty's new girlfriend Lisa (Rachel Miner) and her best friend Ally (Bijou Phillips), Lisa decides Bobby's reign of terror must end. Assembling a crew of alienated suburban teens, she forms a deadly plan to get Bobby out of the way once and for all, turning friends into enemies and casual acquaintances into co-defendants in a murder that rocked America to its core.
Taken from amazon.com which the movie rates 4 stars so far.
The movies straight up ed up. Thats all this guy does is do movies like this. All of his movies are extreamly..... ed up. This one was a true story made into a real movie. If you like movies that are twisted you'll like it.
I doubt this thread would get alot of reply's but, If anyone has seen any of his movies please comment, I would like to hear other person(s) views on his movies.

Ahhhh!! HAPPINESS. I totally love Tod Solondz's work. This is an amazing film about middle-class, suburban family life. The Solondz view, of course, so don't expect a feel-good movie. He gets right into the perverted feelings of the characters. I loved Dylan Baker in his role of Dr. Maplewood, the trusted family doctor who is a closet pedophile. If you can find this, watch it. And look for Solondz's other film, WELCOME TO THE DOLLHOUSE, too. He does incredible work. |

Bully made me feel sick afterwards, but it's a really good movie. Better than Kids imo. I especially felt bad because it was a true story. The prison sentences they recieved were outrageous. In Sweden none of them would have gotten more than 10 years.
Haven't seen Another day in Paradise, I better check it out. |

Kids was a good movie, it's sad to hear people laugh at the scence where he says, "Don't worry. It's me Casper." Since he is raping her at the time. I actually feel sad for that scene.
Thanks for advising Bully. I knew that he made another movie that was as good as Kids, but never got the name. I'm sure to buy it this weekend.
Requiem was only good because the cinematogaphy was amazing. The storyline was helped out because his vision for the movie was soo big.
Good movies all around. I do like movies that make you think. Except for Gumo <--- hahahah. Just plain stupid and funny |
