You do not want to record your set through your microphone in connection. You need a LINE IN connection on your soundcard so that you can get a decent sounding recording.
The only other piece of advise that I can offer is that you make sure you have the mute selection unchecked on your volume advanced features if you are using windows. |

Thanks for the information mates... thanks a lot..
now i can do the recording with Soundforge now..
but the problem is "only the left side speaker has sound "
and when i am doing the recording in Soundforge ..it only has the picture (like wave) above .. but under the 0 shows nothing...
is it another setup problem??
thanks in advance.. cheers,...

make sure that you have both red and white cables plugged in the "record out"-connection (not the "master out") of your mixer and check if the master balance switch on your DJM3000 is in the middle between L and R. |

the reason you are only recording on one side is because you either don't have your cables connected correctly, or because you are recording in mono. Make sure you are using stereo for everything, and if there is a speaker setup, that it is in stereo too.
also, make sure you have the balance properly set up and that you don't have the right or left channels on mute. |

I have a similar problem. When i record through soundforge, it records on both left and right sides ONLY if i set it to Mono on the status bar. When i set it to stereo only the left side records, like jonathanho's.
what could be the prob?? the cable is an rca from the Tape-out on my mixer into the SB Live's line in. But even if i dont use a line in, as in just for playback, only the right bar is bouncing. It was fine a while ago. I must have changed some settings.
I've tried recording using other progs like Nero Soundtrax and its got the same prob. the right channel is non existant. |

Are you sure you are using the LINE IN on your sound card and not the MIC IN? Mic inputs on soundcards are mono, in that the jack socket physically only has two connections, ground and signal. On a stereo line input jack socket, there are three connections - ground, left signal and right signal. If you put a stereo jack into a mono socket, the ground and one of the signals will make a connection (not both) - I believe this is the left channel, but I could be wrong.
When you record from the microphone input, if you try to record in stereo it will try to record both the left and the right channel - since you only have a left channel, you will get nothing from the right.
When you record in mono, however, there is only one channel. If I was right about it being the left channel above, then this corresponds to the left channel output of your mixer. If you unplug the red RCA cable, absolutely nothing will change. When you play this back, it plays this single channel to both left and right speakers, so you may be fooled into thinking it is stereo.
The only other thing I can suggest is check your cable. It may be that the jack has pulled out of the socket slightly, meaning one of the connections might not be made inside the socket, or it might be that your cable is faulty. If it isn't pulled out of the socket, try swapping the cable round in the back of the mixer, i.e. put the red in the white socket and the white in the red socket. If the channel that records in soundforge is reversed, then you have a faulty cable.
Hope this helps.

Thanks alot for your advice Tim.
However, after trying to remedy the situation with all the things you suggested such as with different sets of cables, or checking the inputs, the problem still persists.
It may be useful noting that while trying to swap the RCA plugs (white into red, red into white), the problem was the same. As well as when i plugged in EITHER the red or white cable, it made no difference. The input only seemed to come from the left side.
I reckon its an internal setting on my PC as a while ago it was recording perfectly fine. I'm not an audio whizz though, and don't really know how to fix the prob.
Other than that I can only think that it is the soundcard's line-in jack itself that is spoilt. But I don't see how that could've happened. I will try swapping soundcards and see if it persists. |

Good idea on checking the soundcard... its definitely something to rule out.
Also, one thing that I have stumbled on in the past and not been able to work out for ages... If you are using a program such as Winamp, that has a balance control, it may be that you accidentally moved the balance over. The balance control is connected directly to the Windoze volume control, and each time you load up winamp it will put the settings to the same place as they were when you last used it... so even if you have centred it in windoze volume control, as soon as you load up winamp its back to where it was before.

i don't know if you have checked or not.. but lol.. i had the "line-in" muted under advanced properties (in volume control) .. check it out.. heh
