| i was in my old school gym changing rooms on my own and i was writing messages and then when id finished writing the short messages, i would put them in a shoe and throw the shoe out the window and then id rest my head on the bench and shut my eyes real tight and when i opened them i saw the shoe that i had thrown out the window and i pulled out the piece of paper and i had a reply to my message. i then replied to this particular message and put it back in the shoe and threw it back out the window and put my head on the bench and closed my eyes real tight and when i opened them i saw A Canadian Sidewalk Trip
By Brad Morris
This story begins with a little boy, who was rather special. His name was Brad, and he liked to do crazy spontaneous things, like walk to the airport, and skip dentist appointments because they were handing out free cotton candy at the mall. This particular time, Brad (who is also me, which is kind of weird, because most people don’t speak in third person) was walking to the mall with some friends, and we’ll call them Randy and Brendan, because those are their names. Anyway, they were all walking to the mall, when Brad said "Hey, I have $5, lets take the GO bus, to the airport!"
"OK, I also have $5 to waste on a bus ticket.", said Randy, and then Brendan didn’t have much of a choice, so he had to go with the two adventurers.
They all waited for the bus for about 20 minutes, until they realized, the bus didn’t run on weekends. "Oh donkey feces. What do we do now?" asked Brad.
"We could always take a cab, couldn’t we?" Randy suggested. Brad stopped and thought about that. They waited.
"No, you see, I don’t have any money for a cab" Said Brad, realizing he should have a job. So they waited, and thought about what they could do to get to the airport. Suddenly, Brendan asks "Why do we want to go to the airport in the first place?" They all paused, to answer another question that they didn’t seem to know the answer to at the current time. In fact, they would not know the answer for the rest of their lives, but they still wanted to go regardless. They decided that walking would be the best idea, seeing how they’ve done it before.
They arrived at the airport in record time (partly due to the fact that they’ve only done it once before, and they stopped to watch planes go by for about an hour). "Ok, now that we’re here, what are we going to do?" Wondered Brendan. Brad, Randy and Brendan spent the next hour pondering what to do now that they have successfully reached their destination. Another hour past before Brad realized that they had only $5 on them, and they really couldn’t do much. "Well, we can’t go home, because the buses don’t run on weekends, so we’re stuck here until Monday, unless you guys want to walk back home." A moan was all that Brad heard for a response. "So its agreed, nobody wants to walk, so what should we do?"
"Well, we are at an airport," noted Randy. "what can we do at an airport?"
"Lets go to Mexico!" Brad said, a little bit too enthusiastically.
"We can’t go to Mexico Brad, this project is supposed to be on Canada!" Brendan pointed out.
"Well I don’t think we have enough money to get to Mexico in the first place." Randy added. So once again, they thought about what to do, for a good hour or so, until Brad came up with yet another idea worthy of a Nobel prize.
"We can walk!" There was a brief pause. Actually, it was a rather long pause, until…
"Walk to Mexico?!" Brendan asked.
"Why, how far could it possibly be?" Asked Brad (who conveniently failed geography in grade 9). Brendan was furious. He couldn’t believe that Brad was being serious. They argued for the next little while. Until Brendan realizing what he said earlier "This has to be about Canada, Brad" reminded Brendan.
"So lets walk to somewhere in Canada" Randy suggested.
"But what’s worth going to in Canada?" Brendan asked, who was all but happy with the idea of walking across Canada, but once again, Brendan succumbed to the evil demon that those drug commercials like to call "Peer Pressure". They left for what they called "The rest of Canada" by noon that day.
Later that week, they found themselves in a forest rich environment. They decided to take a short break, for the first time since they left, on that cold Saturday. "Where do you think we are?", asked Brad. Both Randy and Brad looked to Brendan for the answer, seeing he was the only one of the three that didn’t have a brain equivalent to that of a squirrels.
"I’m guessing we’re in Manitoba by now.", Brad and Randy had no reason to disagree, so they both said "Cool.". They grew hungry very quickly, and decided to look for some place to eat, but seeing how Brad was a very impatient person when it came to his stomach, and decided to eat that mushroom growing out of that dead tree trunk.
Brad awoke in a brightly lit room, with tubes coming out of what he thought to be, every single hole in his body. "Where am I?", he asked.
"You’re at E.M. Crowe Memorial Hospital, in Eriksdale" said the glowing lady (the side effects of the mushroom had yet to wear off).
"What am I doing in a hospital, little glowing pixie in the nurse uniform?", demanded Brad. She seemed to float around the room, to the window, scaring off the little gnomes that were plotting to eat Brads hospital food, that was beside him.
"You ate a poisonous mushroom Brad, you’ve been here for a few hours." She talked for a bit more, but Brad couldn’t concentrate on what she was saying, the gnomes were after his potatoes again. Brad quickly devoured his potatoes, to spite the little men with the pointy hats.
The hospital released Brad the next day. Randy and Brendan were there waiting for them. "Thank you, for waiting guys.", Brad said. They walked for a bit down the road, and realized, that they had no clue where they were, except for they were in the parking lot of "E.M. Crowe Memorial Hospital, in Eriksdale".
"Hey, isn’t it like Wednesday now?", asked Randy.
"I believe so, Randy" replied Brendan.
"Well busses run now, don’t they?"
"I suppose they would, yes." At that moment, they all realized that they could go home. They walked to the nearest bus stop, and waited for the next bus. A good 1643 seconds went by before the bus came and picked them up. They didn’t know where the bus would take them, nor did they care, they just wanted home.
They should have cared where the bus was going. They got off the bus, in a very not home type of place. In fact, they were even further away from home than their parents would probably allow on a school night. Brad couldn’t help but notice the amount of Calgary Flames paraphernalia for sale in the little gift shops. "We must be in British Columbia" Brad established. All but Brad paused on that comment. A funny look was bestowed upon Brad, compliments of Brendan.
"We’re in Alberta moron!" Brendan said, not nicely. Brad trusted Brendans judgment, and was used to his mother calling him that name, so he didn’t take it to heart.
They followed the large crowed of people, to where they could never tell, or at least for the time being. The crowed seemed to all be concentrating itself towards this place called "The GrandStand". None of them knew what it was for, but they wanted to follow anyway. They arrived at the front gate, and the man asked for a ticket. "For what?", asked Randy. The usher looked a little confused "You don’t know what you’ve been waiting for in line for about 2 hours for?", he asked. A blank stare was all that he got from them. "It’s for the Calgary Stampede" explained the usher. "
"Why do we need tickets for that?" Brad asked. The usher thought about that, not knowing if he was not aware about a policy for children who not showered in a few weeks. Then the user realized, "Oh, you must be competitors, my mistake, right this way…" and the usher, ushered them into the building.
They were put into this small room, with cowboy outfits. They all tried their costumes on, and for some strike of luck for Randy and Brad, the uniforms didn’t fit, but seeing how Brendan was significantly taller than the rest of them, fit into it. There was a knock on the door, and someone said "You’re up". They all looked at one another, and opened the door, and followed the man that they assumed knocked on the door.
They followed the man out into a big field, full of dirt. Brendan was pulled away from the other two, and he was taken to a gate, that had a nice little horse in it. Brendan was forced onto this nice little animal with legs, and the horse didn’t seem to mind. There was a wait, and it seemed like for an eternity for poor little Brendan, because he did not know what he was waiting for. There was a bell, and the gate opened. All of a sudden the little nice horse with legs, turned into what he thought to be Satan, with rocket packs. Brendan flew off the horse, and flew very gracefully, exactly the way a bowling ball wouldn’t. There was a loud thud, and then Satan with rocket packs quickly turned back into its pleasant "Pretty horse" stage once again.
Brendan awoke to bright lights, and men with masks on, poking at him. Brendan quickly jumped out of his bed, only he didn’t. He only wanted to, but when he tried, he couldn’t move any of his bones. They were trapped in some sort of plaster cocoon. Brendans immediate thought was that he was abducted by some flock of caterpillar people. Then he realized he was in a hospital. A sigh of relive was the only sound Brendan made. The doctor asked him a few questions, like why he wanted to be a cowboy, and did had he seen a doctor about that growth on the side of his neck.
Later that year, Brendan was released from the hospital, and all was well. Except for, they were all still in Alberta, and had no way home. They were all tired of this stupid trip, and were desperate in finding a way home. They spent a good part of the month trying to find ways home, but nothing. It looked as if they were going to have to live there for the rest of their lives. Until one day, Brad said "Wait, this story doesn’t have to make sense!" and then they all flew home, with magic capes.
