This year he played at Mayday and his Gatex was played over and over. That's what I call a breakthrough.

The thing is that "Gatex" (and other productions like "Brotax"/"Lanicor") have been played over and over for almost 2 years now, but the only reason "Gatex" is more famous now is because Tiesto began playing the song. With this i mean famous among tranceaddicts & DJs you never thought would be playing this song.
Among other technoDJs, it's what it has always been, a good song, a classic.

And to play at "Mayday" is absolutely no reason to call an year a breaktrhough for a technoDJ imo, as he played at both "I Love Techno" & "Nature One" last year, which are two much largers events and even much more respected events among the technoscene. So I'd rather call that a breakthrough than playing at "Mayday".

All in all, this year is actually more like a "follow-up" of his last years work, both as a dj and producer.
The only thing he really achieved this year was to become more commercial and lose very much of respect within the technoscene, (me exluded though:):), since i still like his stuff, but I gotta admit, i enjoyed it much more before)

Take it as an "informative" post, it is mostly my opinion on Umek this year + many other person's opinions.

Greets & Happy new year

I love Techno and Nature One are both good festivals, but Mayday is two leagues higher. Mayday excist for over 11 years, and DJ's take pride on being able to call themselves "Mayday DJ"

I love Techno is techno only, Nature One has over 10 tents. No wonder there was room for Umek.

To play at Mayday is something special. If you up, everyone will know about it. If you put down a bad set at Nature One, people will forget about it right away.
