well, im chinese, and i dont think there is racism in the us, till pat buchanan (sp) gets voted into the white house :D. my culture will ALWAYS be a minority, and minorities always will get made fun of. imo, it really should be just accepted, since really, thats how humans are.
and to follow a point about racism and slobodan...why are americans seen as racist when the french very nearly elected jean marie le pen as their leader? im not attacking the french (not right now at least hehe), but my point is, there is racism outside america, too. |

Here in England there are a few racists, who might attack someone or something just because they are a different colour.
Mostly its just people doing little things, like locking car doors if a black or asian person walks by, or being nervous walking past them at night.
Another stupid thing I saw, in my cousins class photograph they have put all the asian people wearing head coverings symetricly. If you imagine that they have one 4 people in from the left, and one 4 people in from the right. then 8 people in on the row below. |
they were middle eastern? head coverings?
Since when were people scared of asians? lol
I have no accent whatever, I eat less chinese food then most white americans but I get asked If i know karate at least once a week. I'm not an immigrant I've been here all my life. Asians have been in America as long as white/black/mexicans and are still treated as immigrants. especially by the media |

Agreed, but what else would you expect from Americans.... |
More gay America bashing. Go Canucks ...
Anyways if you want to blame anybody for American citizens misconstruing a link to fortune cookies and Chinese food, blame the restaurants that put the ing things in every meal they give you. If you saw a certain type of product given out with every single Mexican entree, wouldn't you associate it with their culture? |

i think u're def. over-reacting to the whole fortune cookies thing...
besides, theres bound to be more racism here in america, simply because it's the only country on the whole friggin planet that has so many ppl. of so many diff. races/ethnicities living together. i dont know of any other country that has allowed so many foreigners to come in and get decent jobs and prosper...yeah, i know, u're prolly gonna say "but they dont do it out of love or anything, its for purely economic motives, cheap labor...etc."...but still. |

| That fortune cookies thing IS a ploy to get more revenue and get out the whole image for advertisement...but based on a stereotype and on what I'd like to call general ethnic assumption. It's not racism, it's just a little ethnic humor and such...I wouldn't go so far as to say it's ignorance, but maybe they can be a little less blunt than handing out fortune cookies...But then again, that just shows how some cultures are characterized in this country(not saying all Chinese are portrayed or connotated with fortune cookies in America...) |

You know, things like this really get to me.
Sure there are whites who aer racist towards other cultures out of ignorance. But also, other cultures are racist towards whites. It works BOTH ways....you cant go around saying it's only the whites who are racist
On top of that, what do you say about some asian cultures hating others? I hear that stuff to no end from people who are Asian "Oh...I won't date Chinese people..." etc. And I'm not trying to target people who are asian, since I've had a good deal of friends who are I have no reason to, I'm just using it as an example since half the thread was about Asians and racism
Don't you find it all to be a bit hypocritical?? It's an ignorant world, theres always going to be racism, and NO ONE is innocent |

So what are you trying to say?
We don't know who strategized the plan to hand out cookies..the PR director could've been Asian for all I care.
I think people are just trying to say that the majority of what we(as in all ethnicities...not just Korean) label, or mislabel, however you want to perceive it, as racism usually have Caucasians in the picture.
And your right, in this world of overlly sensitive commentary, media and lines to be crossed combined with natural human nature to be selfish and egotistical, we are all guilty. |
