I don't know how a DJ could spin a track he doesn't like. I for one couldn't but I guess you have to give the crowd what they want in some cases.

Every track I'd play, I love! I think a DJ is suppose to play what they like and want to represent, that's the whole point of going to watch a DJ.

The big DJ's usually spin only the tracks they like, but occasionally also spin tracks that the public want. I know Tiësto once said he also plays tracks he is tired of playing (e.g. Lethal Industry) but he has to play them to certain crowds.

the funny thing is that, when he played in athens back in august he spinned some techno during the last 30-40 mins of his set which neither he or the crowd seemed to enjoy.i don't know y he kept on and on with that crap. i was right in front of him and i could see how bored he was of the music........wtf????????

cant speak for anyone else, but if i dont love the track then i sure as wont play it :)
Blue.
I think that I should be able to close my eyes and listen to a set and be able to tell what DJ is spinning :)

I will only spin tracks i like.

tecman
Well, usually yes, except if its a DJ working only for money, spinning cheesy and commercial stuff, with no soul from himself...

But those sets suck anyway, so... :stongue:

I agree. It's easy to say that you should only play what you love, but if you start out that way, you won't get anywhere. I know loads of resident dj's and friends of mine that have Sandstorm, Heaven Scent, Silence and such in their case that they will spin in favour of some very new stuff that they love, but the crowd wouldn't know.
And it's very similar even with big djs. That's what being a dj is, being able to cater to a crowd's wants, and doing it by mixing in your own taste.

The way it seems to me is that they play tracks that are more driving, and not so much just bomb tracks, to me this gets kinda boring but when they do throw in that killer track, it makes it that much more better.

i agree with Djeebie

many bar/club djs just play songs that the crowd wants to hear. this explains that i hear kylie's cant get you out of my head or sophie's murder on the dance floor every night i go out!

Maxim303
i only buy tracks i like, so of course i only spin those. if you play mainly crowd pleasers, what sets you appart from the next "crowd pleaser" dj? heh.. i'm surprised tong and jules are where they are...
