Why do most of the veteran ravers, and true ravers (the ones that go to raves for music) hate calling raves, raves? They always refer to them as "parties"
|
Simple, because soon as someone hear's raves, they think it's illegal, especially if it's on a flyer..it's just asking to be busted by the cops.
Just kind of ignore the rest of the noise in here, we all know the internet is a magnet for people with issues, they go together like pea's in a pod. |

I find that the only people who really say "Hey, I went to a RAVE last night" are the people who go to raves to be "cool" or to get ed up. I have never heard a long time raver call a rave what it is. It's always "I went to this party last night" or "Wanna
hit up this party?"

You're completely right.
To the general public "rave" means drug-incuced, messy, insance, unorganized, illegal, wrong - dance party......
Personally, I don't need that stigma with my co-workers, so I call it a party - which it still is.....
Is it a rave - of course!!! Would I love to call it a rave to my non-educated peers? DAMN RIGHT!!!
Would they think I was a drugged-up crazy man for going and not trust my business instincts for going to a "rave" - yes.... Unfortunately so..
Socitety is too busy placing lables than analysing the truth about life.
Raves are "parties"...... Bottom line.. We'll all use whatever term suits our "other lives" best to limit judgement.... At least that is coming from this vetran....
Raves used to have little or no flyers... The used to have meet-up spots, and locations not announced until hours before it started... The sound was great, the lights were acceptable... The vibe was unity (no attitude).. Can we get back to that??? I hope - but I don't think so - the club generation rules the $$$ now....
Peace -RJ |

I don't know how raves were 10 years ago, but I'm sure that drugs were an essential part of it as well.

I can tell you that 8 years ago when I started to go to raves the drug influence was there, but not the prominent part of going to a "rave".
It wasn't until the media publicized raves as being drug dens that you got 16 y/o's trying to "get high" because they couldn't buy booze....
The drug element was there, but they were responsible users.. I don't ever remember people being so ed up they couldn't stand/speak/make sense until 2000 [WEMF]....
What that did leave - for me - was 4 years of pure music enjoyment - with or without the drugs. The main point being that people didn't get _ed_ on drugs back then..... And thus in 2000 it was the first reports of people dying (a-la that guy who died in the underground parking-garage rave, which caused in inquest into his death by the coroner). Ever since then "rave" has ment "drug den" - UNFORTUNATELY! |

People need to be educated. I personally thrive on the controversy it tends to spark, and I want people to know that it's not the monster the mass media has made it out to be. Yes I say it's a rave, but no I do NOT allow anyone else to think it's a drug den, and I feel perfectly confident in carrying on that argument by virtue of the fact that I didn't TAKE any drugs.
And if I can get 1 out of every 50 people into it, for the music... it's worth it! If I just say it was a party, well that could just as easily refer to someone's house party or a black-tie event.
I suppose people do make a good point about rave being a sort of old-school, underground term, but are you guys sure that we aren't confusing cause and effect? Is a rave really an underground drug den or is it just an unfortunate coincidence that raves have been invaded by cracked-out pansies who neither understand nor care about the music, and thus forced underground? Why be ashamed of the word because of someone else's ignorance??
When we say "electronica", the uneducated masses assume that ALL electronica is repetitive annoying crap because they've only heard the Chemical Brothers, but we know it's not so we still say we listen to trance! Don't we? |

| quote: | Now it is hard to call anything a rave. The club scene and the rave scene have melded together into one huge mess. The club heads are pissed off at all the candy kids and their "ugly baggy clothes" coming into their clubs, and all the ravers are pissed off that the club heads that only are there to pick up girls, tight dress pants with untucked dress shirts are listening to their DJs. How can we call a rave what it is today when most music that is played at raves is being played at clubs?
|
I agree. Although I think a party (ei rave) is considered more underground and is NOT at a club that is more popular shall we say. I mean I highly doubt you will see clubbers at a Destiny party (it's possible of course but the majority will be the "raver" type). |

| well, to me Rave wa a totally different thing back in the day (95) than what it was/became here. Totally different music (no not happy hardcore, it was RAVE). Never been to raves here tho but the raves I went to back in Germany and holland were heavily drug influenced but not pushed. The RAVE music was the drug. 200 BPM rushing through your body.... *sigh* boy do I miss those times :'( |

This thread is so weird..
All I am doing is reading post after post after post, everypost being a repetition of the previous post. No difference in thought. Its like listening to old grandmothers bitching at some random daily incident...
Whats the point? |
