a: big hair, polka dots, leotards, big hair, george michael, pop, madonna, metal, kiss, big hair, cindy lauper, ewwwwww.
q:does mass media have an effect on socio-economic classes?
p.s.: well it was a cnn documentary called "the people bomb" or something similar. it showed cases of overpopulation which led to povery and what not in places such as brazil, bolivia, india, nepal, china etc etc. it showed how there were bodies of dead babies found in the middle of highways all the time in brazil. the lack of infrastructure/investment lead the country into the vicious poverty cycle (it was during my ib economics class) pretty depressing the whole thing.
p.s.s.: i hated the 80's |

q: How many women does it take to change a lampbulb, Ste?
ps: The problem here is not really overpopulation, but a terrible distribution of people. It's a mini-world. Europe has a problem with African illegal immigrants, right? Imagine that, instead of countries, you have just different states. Even though these "immigration nuclea" are rich, they can't give these people a proper job and stuff. The phenomenon is a lot more complex than this, but this analogy will help you understand.
Keep in mind that economically there are 3 Brazils: one of them (the one which I live in, and I'm thankful to God for that) is as wealthy as Belgium - we have good hospitals, good educational system, et cetera; the second one is as wealthy as Romania - it's a nice place overall, but has some more problems; and the other one could be compared to Iran, and this is where all the trouble starts.
I can talk about it for hours and hours (and I'm afraid a long speech would be boring). If you find it interesting and want to know more about it, feel free to pm me and stuff :) |
