| there has to be life out there. Otherwise, what's the point of us being here? |

| this universe continues to expand and expand on a regular basis...there will be no way for us to reach the ends of the universe because it is infinite which means there has to be intelligent life elsewhere besides planet earth...it's pretty much common sense to realize earth cannot be the only planet out of this entire universe to contain life |

| I definately think there is more out there, in all that infinate amount of space. I think we will eventually meet, despite the obvious size of the universe. They (or by then, we) probably have technology that we couldnt even dream of. Just look how far we have come in the last 200 years, or even just the last 10. |

Hmm, I do, But if someone know's the correct numbers to this following statistic, Please help, I know this is roughly how it is.
In 1994 or 95 MUFON (Mutual UFO Network) did a quick survey and asked 3,000 people to tell them if they believe in UFO's or not.
64% said Yes
27% said No.
9% said Possibly.
Anyone else read this? I am sure these statistics are right, Maybe a few % off on each :) |

| I don't see how it is impossible we are the only ones. |

| It's not impossible, but it's highly improbable. |

When I was 16, I read Carl Sagan's "Cosmos". I highly suggest that book to anyone who even questions the possibility of life existing outside our planet. Hell, there's even the possibility of life existing inside our own solar system on Mars and Jupiter's moon, Europa (albeit not "intelligent" as we would call it). That book also breaks down the Drake equation pretty well.
I sure hope there's "intelligent" life out there, because there doesn't seem to be a whole lot on our block. If anything, they've hovered over our planet from time to time to see how far along we've progressed (or digressed). Hence, the UFO spottings, and the reason why they haven't made themselves known: they know we're a bunch of nitwits..... |

life, maybe yes, intelligent life, unlikely...
special event hypothisis:
the more intelligent a life form becomes the more rare,
the fact that the human race existes today is a big chance in itself with a billion to one odd's of ever happening,
single celled organism's started appearing 1 billion years after the earth was formed, for around 2 billion years they stayed the same, and never changed, then all of a sudden they began to evolve to more complex life forms, what trigered this is unknown.
anyways reptiles were the dominent life (dinosuar's) and if they didnt die (also unkown) mammels wouldnt have been the dominent species, infact they could have even been extinct. no mammels, no primates, no man.
basically that this could be a freak in the entire universe, intelligent life is very lucky to get far, as we know nature is cruel and the strong survive....
just a few things to think about..... |

that's a stupid question because you can't believe in "UFO's". UFO's exist, it's term which is used for flying objects people do not recognize. often it's simply a weatherballoon or something. in other words, a drunken farmer can look at something and say it is a UFO, whilst a scientist at NASA says it's a new class of jet. it's all very relative. therefore, the question should be: "do you believe in the existence of intelligent extra-terrestial lifeforms?" |

here's a thought.
you guys remember the piece of meteor rock that they found on antarctica? and scientists concluded that it was from mars by comparing it to samples from there.
how did it get here?
it got here when mars got hit by a meteor a while back.
a long while back. :)
the scientists also found bits of bacteria in the rock and guessed that there was life on mars.
the question is:
is the rock from mars?
or is it a piece of the original meteor that hit mars??
we developed, evolved from single celled organisms.
that rock took years to get to mars, took more years to come to earth, sat around and waited for an intelligent life to find it.
so its brethern back home - if it still exists - had much more time than us to evolve.
this raises a new question.
life on earth might not have originated from here.
bacteria can thrive anywhere.
kind of like a superhuman baby sent to a new planet to continue the species, slap some cells that will adapt to anything (almost) and grow, onto a chunk of rock and hurl it into space to start a new life somewhere else.. hmmm |
