man my whole operation took like 3 hours cuz they have to saw one tooth into like 4 sections cuz it was so hard to pull off. and for a straight week i ate nothing but Chinese congee and spat blood for 3 straight days ..
yea definately one of the worst experiences of my life .. :whip:

well I could have been awake the whole time, but I chosed to go to sleep, and I think that was a good desicion. But thy aslo used anesthetic so that I wont feel pain after. It took yours 3 hours and awake the whole time?? that must have been very unconfrotable!!
for me It took them 40 min to take all 4 teeth out.!!
and yes I must agree with you that this was definatly one of the worst experiences I've had.
and Iam soooooooooooooo hungry man, I wanna eat sooo bad but I cant

I got mine taken out 2 at a time.

The first time I was 19. Young, brave and strong. The top one came out with one big POP... no problem. The second was all crooked so he had to drill hack and yank away. It was crazy to hear all the cracking and popping and spitting out so much blood. But thanks to anesthetic there was no pain. That time I used no post-op pain killers. What a strong boy I once was.

Got the second 2 out about 10 months ago. Same ordeal but this time I was a big baby. I guess the first problem was my Dentist didn't put enough anesthetic in. So when he sarted to drill I screamed and whined like a baby. Didn't enjoy it at all and wished I was asleep for it. Took T3's for the next few days but it passed and healed.

I guess as years go by I have become less tolerant to pain.

Yeah man, it is pretty painful. It also depends on how easy they can get em out. Mine were a in bitch to get out, and one of them actually broke in half when they pulled, so they had to drill the rest of it out!!! My whole left side of my face was swollen, and one of the holes was still bleeding at times 24 hours after surgery!! And you cant eat solids for a while which sucks. Id go with the THC option if you ask me......and keep poppin those 3's!!

You know thats exctly how I was feeling,I was soo damn scared, bacause evryone had their own stories, but whats funny is every time I asked guys about this, they all told me it was painful and hurts like hell (chickens hehe:D ). But when I asked girls they said it was a very pain free operation, and they had no problmes.I was embaressed since I was acting like a little baby!!:toothless

Bandit all I can tell you is ask your doctor to put you in sleep, TRUST me man you should sleep, you'll have no pain and wont feel a thing during the operation. So now when I think about it I was worried for no reason. The only problem right nowI have after 7 hours is that I cant open my mouth all the way,and eveytime I drink It IN hurts, and soo far no swolling yet, but the doctor tole me it should start swolling the next day:nervous:.

So really you shouldnt be worries that much, ooh and the damn T3's arent making me sleepy at all, well I guess thats a good thing right??hehe
The Highroller
get your mom to kick you in the johns. that will get your mind off the pain in your mouth :haha:

wells supposedly we evolved from some pre-ape species which had extra molars at the back of our mouths, but studies prove that we no longer need these teeth and that if u leave them in long enough you can end up with this condition called "impacted teeth" where gum disease can develop in that area and it also causes ur other teeth to shift and get crooked which can ruin expensive dental work if u've had braces.

so yea i dunno if this is a good explanation or not .. perhaps someone who knows more about dentistry could explain it more clearly.. :p

i don't think they're extra molars.

we're meant to use them - the theory is that prehistoric man ate a lot of raw foods , tough foods, etc., and that that wore down all the molars (not just the wisdom teeth - technically called the 3rd molars), so that they would be smaller, and all 3 molars would fit in the jaw.

but in today's age of kraft dinner and mcdonald's, we just don't dig into the ol' mastodon's hide as much anymore (just generalizing lol - of course the mastodon is extinct). so our molars remain ing big, and the thirds just don't have enough space to squeeze in.

some people have no problems, but a lot don't have enough space (me included). if that's the case, then the wisdom teeth may become impacted - that is, they will come out incorrectly. they may be laterally impacted, or vertically impacted. the first means they're crooked - coming in sideways, or slanted, or whatever. it can get pretty nasty. vertically impacted means they remain in your jaw/gums, and don't erupt (i.e. surface) at all. one of my upper wisdom teeth hasn't erupted yet, the other one is fully out, and the bottom two are just halfway out, but there is by far no room for them. i'll eventually have to cave in and get them removed.

what's really wonderful is that evolution is already at work here - many people are born with a wisdom tooth missing! some are even born without any wisdom teeth at all!

a side story - sometimes freak incidents happen, and when talking to my orthodontist a while ago, he told me a story about treating someone who had FOUR molars - i.e. TWO pairs of wisdom teeth. i thought , "OUCH" ... poor bastard. imagine the pain he'll have to go through to get those extracted! lol
