need some help choosing a new mixer.. any ideas?

looking for some ideas for a new mixer.. i was originally looking for one w/ effects and preferrably 19" and I had decided on the DJM3000 but its just way outta my financial means (i figure i should start paying off my debts instead of adding to it).. sooo, now i've got to choose something else. my main requirement is that it must be 4-ch and @ least 3-band eq (my dreams of owning an A&H Xone 62 have faded) and thats pretty much it. some mixers i've been looking at were the Denon digital mixers, they seem to be reasonably priced but i don't know much about them.. and how are these Tascam and Behringer mixers? well any input would help. also, i do not like Vestax mixers.. my setup is just 2 mk2's and a stanton s700 dual CD deck. I'd like if the mixer has digital (preferrably RCA input & optical output) cuz my cd deck has digital outs and i record onto my MD recorder which has an Optical Input but i haven't had the chance to test these out yet. i guess it don't matter until i get my Audigy 2 w/ optical ins to really take advantage of 100% digitalness! well thanks for your help.

u can look @ my setup

if i can get a 19" mixer, i plan to dump the coffin and get a skb shuttle rack to put my amp (hidden under the cd deck in the pics) and the cd deck on the bottom racks and the mixer and cd controller on the top.. i guess if i get a regular mixer than i don't need to worry about the rack..

wow your speakers are really close to your decks...doesnt that cause problems? sorry i dont really know much about 19" mixers...just got myself an xone 62 and its great tho... great filters which is waht i preferred over effects...

The Mixer of Choice handed down by GOD the Disk Jockey Himself??
Allen & Heath Xone 62 Period. I've tried them all and agree with him.

DO NOT BUY A MIXER WITH STOMP BOX QUALITY EFFECTS IN IT....

Why would you pay for Cheezeball Garbage effects, when you can be paying for most important SOUND QUALITY. Buy the Effects separate Dude and like myself build a Rack. I got two..... Power Section and Pre Section

Just ask DJ Phu 'bout the Horrible Tascam full of those effect thingys he brought over. The Tascam was like $1800 Can and my Heath w/o Cheeze whiz was $1600 Can.

Once wired up and going the Tascam lasted about 5 mins. I wanted to pull the plug after 10 sec. but I am a fair man and let the thing get an honest opinion. I would have had more respect for the Tascam if I pulled it earlier. THIS IS A CLASSIC EXAMPLE OF QUALITY. A&H "Made in UK", Tascam "Made in Taiwan". I am not 100% but heard Pioneers are made in China.

In a Nutshell 3 mixers I narrowed down too. Vestax PMC-55(My main choice for 3 years) The Heath and Pioneer. Order they finished

#1 mixer Allen & Heath - XonE 62
#2 mixer VESTAX - PMC55 Made in Japan (PMC's 270a, 275a, 170a, 175a are made in china and are NOISY not the same as Real Vestax's)
#3 anything made in US or UK that has EQ's and XLR's

depends on how much money you have, i would say a A&H 464, but thats VERY VERY VERY expensive. you should probably say how much money you have then people will be able to help you easier

No Dude the 464 only has larger and way more flexible mic sections, and is way to big. If it was better I would have it.

The 464 is A good choice if you wanna use it for a live band and DJ'ing. I have no band anymore so forget it

I have the same CD decks you have but in black.

They do have a digital out but it's not optical it's SPDIF out. Which is the same as optical but it's a totally different cable. SPDIF out you can use any regular RCA cable and it should work.

The Denon DX400 has a SPDIF out and is a good choice but remeber that is only has 2 phono inputs so you couldn't ever hook up another Tech. You could get a phono preamp but that defies the purpose. The only reason to get a DX400 or DX500 is for the digital capability. The one thing I didn't like about the Denon's is their lack of bottom end. Digital is not always better. A nice analog board like the old Urei's or Bozaks thump like you won't believe.

There is also the Stanton VRM-10 which has a SPDIF out but they are mad expensive at $2000 US.

Behringer makes a decent box for about $170 DX1000 but no digital out. But you get five channels and 2 mic input channels with talkover and sensitivity.

Vestax makes a good 2 channel board PMC-250 with beautiful EQs but I see you don't like Vestax.

Thanks for all your help.. I was hesitant to come back to this board for advice (i had stopped checking in because I felt this forum had grown a little towards the immature side) but those of you who posted your .02 did it in a very good, solid, non-critical manner and I appreciate it.. this is what this forum was meant to be.. I was expecting to just get flamed w/ comments about my different color tables (hey, they're different, what can i say?) or just some other meaningless jabber..
so getting back to my situation.. as you can see, my mixer isn't too fancy, but, it works so I gotta be greatful for that considering it is an American DJ product and old too. the xfader bleeds like mad and i am not willing to put any money into repairing it because that would be money towards a new mixer. the mixer i've had most experience besides mine is the pioneer djm600, a guy in my old dj crew had it and that was the mixer we used all the time, i like it but its expensive, and i'd rather get the Xone for a couple hundred more bux. but all this is outta the question because my setup is in dire need of replacements.. well not really, but it is time to get new headphones because my v6's finally snapped, i've got about .00005mm left on my least worn stylus, so really the new mixer is more like a luxury than necessity. plus the fact that i've got rent, tuition, bills and credit card debt draining my wallet, it's very hard for me to justify dropping a large sum on a mixer when that is a large chunk of debt I could clear.. so basically i'm gonna look at getting at least two styls, and my headphones which should cost me about $175 total (im getting the night club ortos($25x2) and pioneer sedj headphones ($100). at that point i will assess the mixer situation, but i want to estimate that I don't want to spend more than 400, I know i wissh i could get teh Xone and its sound quality, but thats a luxury i can't afford and besides, my mixes sound just fine coming from the american dj..

also, yah forget the effects, i can get an fxbox later if i see it necessary (again, another luxury). I should look at the vestax, I just really don't like the look and feel of vestax mixers, i've used about 5 different ones (from the 2-ch scratch/battle mixers, to some 3-ch mixer w/ a lotta knobs and looked fancy, I just didn't like how it felt and i guess thats personal. maybe i'm accustomed to the djm w/ its big fat knobs

I hear you about the EQs on most Vestax but the PMC-250 is unlike any other vestax. The EQ's are HUGE!!!

I think you should try it out. The only thing is like I said that it is only a 2 channel mixer. Anyway it's only $260 0r something.

Peace

Sorry to hear that man, but you said somthing that I have total respect for was "my mixes sound just fine coming from the american dj" I am older than like 90% of the people on this site. I started music in the SLUMS. Since like 8 y/old I played guitar,@13 then bands in h/school,@19 in a Promissing Death Metal Band playing bars. @24 Found 2 members starting there Junk addiction life, packed my gear, came home, end of that music Career. Worked Hard Labor, said f that, went to school, got good job, worked ass off for carrer.

Stumbled upon an Early Tiesto Bootleg and that was it.BTW I am the same age as him.

Your Quote "my mixes sound just fine coming from the american dj.." tells me were I used to be. The Equipment NEVER changed my passion for music. I always started with z equipment before I got good then over time scrimped( legally of course) for Top Line stuff(not to mention watching all my friends for years take there 10 times better equipment than mine to ING LESSONS!!!!. There Music Lessons lost everytime to my Passion for music. Alot of people think the good equipment plays itself!!!

Dude sounds like you got the passion

You are welcome to Spin on my Wheels anytime Dude. You list from S.California? Which city? I lived there too B4 in Arcadia

I only post what I am 100% positive & sure. I have seen alot of disgusting advice from people here and seen BAD mistakes because of it.

thanks for the compliment.. and yes, passion is a definite must.. and it definitely helps me do what i love even w/o the best gear. i've been mixing on this mixer for so long, shoot i woulda had my Xone 62 a year or 2 ago, but i knew that its not something that the ends could justify the means in that i had more important things to pay for than a mixer. now, i actually need a new one but i think i'd rather buy an ok mixer and still spin w/ a good sound, than buy the best mixer and get kicked out of my apt. cuz i can't pay my rent.. soo i think i'll look into that vestax 19" there, but do they make a 4ch?

Forget all that...

RANE MP 2016

Best mixer around. Smooth mixing, power beyond belief. Most clubs have this mixer among others to choose from. If you get this one, the only way it is 100% effective is with the optional xpander with the EQ kills and active crossfader. Most fun mixer I have ever worked on.
DJR-Type
I highly recommend the Vestax PMC-175

The crossfader lasts forever,
it has features-a-plenty,
and it sounds GREAT over a big system

heres an example:

I was at a 5-zoner last weekend and the trance zone was running off a vestax 175,
playing out to a thousand people and it sounded great!

also, the mixer should only set you back around about £269.00!

http://www.musiccentre.co.uk/dj/ves...stax_pcv175.htm

the 175 is definitely a high quality mixer at a low price!
