Alright, I'm using XP Pro.
I have a file on my computer that I am trying to delete.
It says either a program or another person is using this file (every time I try to delete it)
How do I go about deleting this file manually? I cannot figure it out for the life of me :(
Cheers,

I have the same problem. You could always try booting up to safe mode and try to delete them there.
What's really strange is the MSN gaming zone files. When I deleted them, they always come back within 10 or 15 seconds  |

Yeah, that helps with the problem :D
DJ Cluster - I expect you will have already tried this but make sure you've closed any open programs (including things like MSN Messenger, ICQ, Direct Connect etc.) and then try. If it still doesn't work then I'd imagine it's a file needed by Windows XP and you probably shouldn't delete it :) |

I had the same problem and resolved it using Wipe Info from Norton Utilities.

Sounds like a plan, I'll start her up in safe mode (thats F2 of Delete) right? The file itself is a video file of flatland BMX segment with Hoffman. It worked at one point from what I recall.
Also, on another note, for those with XP, do you ever hear your HD increase and decrease in speed spuratically? I hear this thing wind up like its about to blow up the city, then I hear it wind down where it sound like my HD is dragging across my floor gasping for life.... Kinda scary.... Anyone?

This happens with Winxp. Every couple of days or so xp rearranges your most used files on your hardrive so you can access these files faster. If you want to disable this feature click START->RUN->type MSCONFIG->go to startup and uncheck RUNDLL32.exe
Also it's a good idea when you are there to uncheck any other programs that you do not want to automatically start everytime you boot up. |

i've had that problem before too. usually after a clean reboot, i can delete the file. just make sure you don't have too many programs open on startup.
while we're on the topic of computers, has anyone got those stupid advertisement pop-up windows from microsoft? its not your conventional internet explorer pop-ups but the windows "alert" pop-ups. howver, instead of notifying you some kind of computer problem, its just some stupid ad. it comes up every few hours and its annoying as hell. |
