ok. first off rap is something you do. hip hop is a culture. so if u listen to rap, u are listening to hip hop cuz its one of its 4 (5) elements, rapping or mcing, djin or turntbalism, graffiti art, breakdancing and beatboxing is considered an element sometimes. so there is no 2 categories between rap or hip hop. its the same thing. ppl think its 2 seperate things for what reason i dont know, but im sure its been contrived (is that a word?) by the mainstream or whatever u may call it. same with what u hear on MTV and the radio. that is mainstream hip hop. that is what ppl base all there opinons on most the time. but hip hop is more than that, there is alot of good music that goes unheard such as stuff by dilated peoples, j5, and other artists people have mentioned along with many others. now i didnt really understand hip hop until i saw the movie "scratch" which is about the history of turntablism. it tied into the origins of hip hop too, its definetly a good documentary. so yea. i used to be a hip hop head when i was younger, but the stuff nowadays kinda turned me off it but itll always be a part of me. i think i like it as much as trance. and theres no need in all this flaming but hell its TA what would 1 expect? :)

It's very mixable and REmixable.

Different artists often collaberate to make great .

It's underground (or used to be) for the most part.

The DJ and turntable are the main ingredients to it's success.

Sound familiar?

I used to listen to rap everyday nonstop. I was a B-boy since 1983. It's generation-X's very own music, somewhat like grunge but a load better. Alas, I can't identify with the bling bling era, good hip hop died after the pro-black, political era ended. I still listen to rap and write tracks, but not as much. Trance is now my main focus.

i normally don't like rap...

except for Icy Hot Stuntaz

What a bunch of haters. Are you all 15 or something? Please, grow up. And the racist overtones, wow, you make me sick and a bit ashamed to call myself a TA.

Like it or not, hip hop is not only the predominant form of electronic music of the last two decades but the dominant genre in the history of music in the making as well.

First of all, most of you guys obviously can't distinguish between the commercial and indie/artsy hip hop. You're no different from Eminem when he calls Moby "techno".

Sure, Ja Rule and Jay Z and Eminem etc. may be "fun" POP music, but that's not hip hop, that's booty music. That's what DJ Sammy and Darude are to trance.

Listen to anything on the Ninja Tunes label, listen to Rakim, to the Roots, to Sage Francis, to Jurassic 5---these guys' quality of production is among the best in the world for any kind of electronic music.

I do not love hip hop, it is not my thing, I mainly listen to classical and trance/prog. But I prefer hip hop over any other "pop" or rock genre any day. Peace.

Second, second if all Geez can get out of rap is nigga, hes too stupid to listen to it neway, and he not being black doesnt have ne understanding on the usuage of the word, there fore it sticks out like a sore thumb in nething hip hop he listens to. O and lets all break way for Oli A the world standard on the psyche of black people. Wtf does he or you know about how black people think. Not everything is taken as a slur just the stupid people like you and the other hicks around the world say. Wtf would you know u ing live in Australia, there are prolly NO REAL BLACK PEOPLE WHERE YOU LIVE NEWAY, ALL YOUR INFO ON BLACK PEOPLE PROLLY COMES FROM CNN. So in short YOU AND WHAT YOU STAND FOR.

Funny... I walked into "Urban" store in downtown Philly in a broad day light few days ago. Guess what was blaring on the store speakers??? "Wussaaaap niggas!!!! Get yo bitches!!!" "Wusssussp bitches!!!! yo niggas!!!!"

That's rap... at its finest, right???? I think that black people are even bigger racists than whites nowdays... They don't just hate anglo-saxons who brought them to US as slaves but everyone who's white - be it eastern european, slavic, albanian, whatever - as long as you're white -you're the opressor... whatever. Comming back to hip hop and rap - I used to enjoy it when it had a meaning... Public Enemy was cool, Run DMC.. but the list of "intelligent rap" is rather short. Gangsta rap/hiphop - I can do without... not coz' I'm a racist white boy but because I think it is degrading, stupid, and immature.

Eminem is white, so is Vanilla Ice - is it ok for me to say that I hate Eminem and Vanilla Ice (hahahaha :D) without being whiplashed and being labeled "racist muthaa"?

Erm, I'm pretty white and I have many black friends who don't hate me. Sure, there are racist people in every ethnic, but you're obviously not being any different.

You're racist b/c you generalize about black people, not because you don't like a music genre.
