that's what I want to find out.

I've seen "triangular" playlist-patterns in FL and I'm guessing they mean "partial patterns." But I have no idea how to get there. I've looked everywhere...

im sorry but i dont unerstand what u mean
if u dont wanna use the whole pattern then create another one with the half of it!?

Yes, but that will leave the other half completely empty (and I'll have to wait till it ends)!
And I want the next pattern to start immediately after 1/2 of the previous one!

it's a very common thing, to insert small irregular breaks like that...
marco.V
did i get it?
u got 2 patterns (example with kicks = X):
1st pattern: X---X---X---X---
2nd pattern: X---X---X---X---

and u want this:
1st pattern: X---X---X---X---
2nd pattern: --------X---X---X---X---

right?

just send the 2nd pattern to piano roll and let start the first 2 kick the bar u want. Then when u will play this in the playlist u will have to put the pattern 2 square just under the pattern 1 one.

if i didnt get it right then i must improve my english
:D
kewlness
your best bet is to just make several patterns...

copy the piano roll from one pattern to another pattern by doing copy and paste... then open up the piano roll, select it and shift it right/left, wherever...

you will have a lot of questions when u start out a new program, but your best way to learn is just to look at other examples...

and by the way... to record the increase in volume, first make a blank pattern that starts on the first pattern... call it "MAIN AUTOMATION" (or something else to remind you).... now save your file because if you record something wrong or accidentally record on the wrong pattern or turn the wrong knob, it can be a hassle sometimes....
k.. making sure that the "MAIN AUTOMATION" pattern is selected, click the record button and make sure you are in "song" mode...
now press play, and as the song proceeds, adjust the volume knob as you want and it will record all the movements of the knob...

there are several other little "tricks", "tips", and suggestions to recording knob tweaks in fruity but i'll save them for later because it will just confuse you...

finally, it's a good idea to take a look at the other included .flp songs that come with fruity loops...
click open, and in the loops folder select the "Cool Stuff" folder...
i would check out all the songs by "Toby", "JasoNC", and a track called "H441-GOA.flp"...
they aren't top notch but they can help you get where you want to go...

-- Okay --
Thanks a lot guys

I solved the problem by making my track 32-based, not 64-based as before.

My next question is: I tried recording a "volume tweak" and screwed up. How can I go back?! (Lucky I saved it  , but in general if I screw up when I do something on the fly, how do I reset it?)
kewlness
it depends what you screw up on...
case #1: you chose the wrong pattern while recording
there are 2 ways to solve this... either replace the channel or fx with an identical one of the one you screwed up with and delete the original, or basically copy everything from that one pattern down to another pattern...
case #2: your tweaking of the knobs is incorrect/innacurate etc...
this is simple to correct... all you do is re-do the recording.... now this is the tricky part to understand... let's say the knob starts off in the song at 0% but on bar 5 you recorded a change in the knob that was wrong... to correct this, you must either record a change in the knob BEFORE bar 5. the reason you do that is because when you press record, fruity loops does not actually record the "position" of the knob, but rather it records the "tweaking" of the knobs... so if you pressed record, and left a knob at 0%, it did not actually record anything... so if you want to "erase" the knob tweak at bar 5, you must record a knob tweak before bar 5 so that fruity loops recognizes that you are "recording" that knob and so it will actually start recording the knob's position from now on, after the slightest tweaking of the knob, provided that you don't stop the recording... basically, in a nutshell, in order to record the position of a knob, first of all, you must record a tweaking of the knob... then, fruity loops will know that you are trying to record that knob that you tweaked and then it will record the knob's position... so if you leave it alone, it will "erase" all other knob tweaks for that knob until you press stop...
yes... i know that was confusing :conf:
whew... :eyespop:
Case #3: You tweaked the wrong knob
basically do what i said in Case #2 by recording first a small tweak in the knob and then leaving it alone and letting it record over your previous knob tweaking... this will "erase" your previous knob tweak and now you can continue on with your other knob tweaking...

but after reading all that, what's obviously the best way to fix screw-up's in recording knob tweaks??
Prevention!
save right before you record knob tweaks so that if you do screw up, you can just load the file again....

ok... i think i've said the word "knob" and "tweak" enough times today.... time for a break... :toocool:

hope that helped a bit... i know it was probably very confusing... but yeah...

Juz' go to the "Current Project" folder.
Then u will see all the automation files that u get from recording knob tweeks etc etc.

I think u can't figure out what to do from there. :thepirate

Kewlness, u can try that out too. ;)
I used to do the same thing as u before I found out about the "Current Folder"

Ta Da! :D
kewlness
wow thx robstar... that sure helps a hell of a lot... :)
robstar
Np! :)

It so much easier doing it that way, now u can draw the filters just the way u want em. And the filter sequence will stay the same no matter where u put it in the playlist.

NicklessGuy
Its pretty easy, all automations events in fruity are recorded in an event editor window. Just go to the pattern u recorded, then, right-click the knob/button u messed and choose "event editor". There u will see a timeline measured in bars that contains a line going up and down that represents the amount of the turned knob's property.

U can just select the "delete" icon and erase the entire event, and u can write it with the pencil exactly the way u want, instead of turning it in real time.
There is also a LFO option there to help. Try to get a maximum range/value with small period LFO with square wave in the fruity mute FX ON button for a very cool steady effect on a string ;)

Tip: Use the MAIN AUTOMATION pattern for the general events/recordings of the song.
If u want to make some knob turning only for a specific sample, record it in the pattern of that sample, so it happens everytime u put it on the playlist

About the cut/cut by thing, it works like this:
v1: 1 / -
v2: - / 1
v3: 1 / -

V2 will be cutted by V1 and V3, and will cut none other channel, while V1 and V3 will cut any cnahhel with cut=1 and be cutted by none other. Be careful no to mess up with the numbers and get unexpected cutting, its wise to write down yous instruments cut values when doing this.

Hope this helps
NicklessGuy
Oh, forgot to say:
the cut thing only works if the instrument/sample to be cutted hav a volume envelope. U must create one if not, even if it wont change anything, it must have it, so it can have a release state to make possible for it to be cutted :)
