how many of you use cdr?

most of the djs we use plus myself are getting in to using cdr as you can get a whole alot more new tunes on cdr..its a shame but it is also the future....

As a producer I give out promos on CD-R because obviously its easier and cheaper than vinyl pressing, so I agree that DJ's have to start accepting it more. But it is happening, Ferry corsten was mixing promos off CD-R at passion and so was Tiesto at crasher.

Also mate, I notice you live in Derby. So do I, I live on Kedleston road. Where abouts are you???
St John
i live on woods lane so im not to far away, drop me an email at [email protected] as i may be able to help you out a little..

yep cds and cdrs are the future :) tiesto, pvd, hardwick, armin etc everyone uses them, and why not?! theyre great! and cheap
Az
heh "Just got my new tunes pressed" just isn't the same as "burnt my tune onto CD"
but there is some class unreleased stuff at the moment, whether it'll stay that way for long I don't know ;)

Def is the future. There is just something so much better about handling vinyl though. :thepirate :disbelief

I heard stories of people getting beat down for using cdr's. The future isn't cdr's anyways. The future is finalscratch and whatever offsprings it creates.

Why is it a shame? if anything, it should be a big positive jump for DJs...with computers and digital music being integrated with everything these days, it provides flexibility, versatility, and most importantly affordability.

FinalScratch, if you think about it, is an offspring in itself...it's an offspring of CDRs. I dunno about Final Scratch BEING the future, but there's definitly potential for it. As for CDRs, it's almost guaranteed that it'll be as common as vinyl for DJs in the upcoming future.
I posted an article of what I thoght of the whole CDJ vs Vinyl DJ thing a while ago...check it out.

yeah, and at least with final scratch you can still use tables, so that's cool. plus u can take more than 10 times the amount of music you normally would physically be able too.

I dont see what the big deal is. Were in a state in the music industry, where producers are having to go back to finding 9-5 jobs at Starbucks, because they have to make a car payment just like the rest of us. I know many producers personally who you would think are living in the lap of luxury, but are struggling. Of course youd start giving your work out on CDR.

Putting your pride aside, vinyl or CDR, its music. Now whats not right is, downloading a song from a release group, and burning it to CDR and playing it out like you are some hot shot.

If the DJs are getting their material on CDR now, and you want this industry and music to continue evolving, then we shouldnt get slagged for spinning CDRs.

With the CDJ-1000, its practically like spinning with vinyl anyways, cept you dont have to worry about scratching your record or cleaning your vinyl thoroughly to remove static pops and hissing.

I think that CDJs are the future, because its making way, for smaller, amateur producers who have the talent, but not the finances to promote their tracks. To say that vinyl is non existant in 5 years might be pushing it, but if things continue goign the way they are, with labels folding like paper, you might have to get used to it.
