my dvd player reads vcd files ...
wich program i have to use to convert mpg , avi etc.. that are not vcd compatible ? |

check vcdhelp as above , theres loadsa info on there , vcd and svcd burning can be complex , i have a vcd / svcd and all that other bollox on my Dvd player. anyways , its like this theres 4 layers to the MPEG format
-----MPEG1 = VCD Disks
-----MPEG2 - SVCD Disks
-----MPEG3 = SVCD AND HIGHER
-----MPEG4 = DIVX /DVD

also you have AVI files but thats another story . Ok lets say you have 2 big movies in AVI format and you wanna play em on your DVD player, well i recommend that you have a powerfull PC and a few spare hours. first your gonna have to re - encode the the AVI file to MPG using many tools best one to use is TMPGEnc.exe This is quite a sweet tool. First you might want to check the AVI file for streamline errors , get this tool VirtualDub.exe , this will open more or less any avi file, here you can edit your avi and export to any other format and quality not MPG yet. One you have a nice 2 AVI files , load em into TMPG enc and set up all the options , i recommend you convert to MPEG2 rather than MPEG1 , yes your gonna be creating a SVCD not a VCD , this may take upto a few hours to convert the mpg file, once you have your .mpg files , use NERO burning rom and create a NEW SVCD , drag over your files into the main disk , there so be no errors appearing , if you get a msg saying wrong format blah blah , dont continue as NERO takes hours to convert, NERO does all the sorting for you.
