As far as I know it's a bit easier to immigrate to Quebec, they have easier immigration policies.. That's why a lot of people go there, even though economically it's a bit weaker than Ontario.

i don't really know about that, the quebec govt tries to accept more people from "french" countries to help its politic of keeping a good french speaking majority. While trying to keep out the others. Thats why you guys in Ontario get lots of immigration from the south and eastern asia, while we get more from the middle east and africa. I'm with you about the economy, Ontario has a richer economy but somewhat less diversifed. Also in 2002 Quebec (surprisingly) had a greater economic growth than Ontario, alsoe most jobs created during this year in Canada were in Quebec. The referendum question has been put on the side which boosts investors confidence, also govt huge infrastructure spendings kept things moving during a suposedly slow year.

I think the reason why asians go to Toronto and Vancouver is because there are already MANY asians in those regions. Similarly many lebanese go Quebec because there are many lebanese there already.
ahlamalek
yes that is very true!! when we came to canada in 86 it was because my uncle and my aunt were here. Then the rest followed later on. what the govt of quebec do, is that they have offices in french speaking countries and try to convince them to come over, they will also give resident permits more easily to those, and try pressuring the rest to go to french schools to learn the language. Also every kid has to go to a french school (except if he's from an english culture) this I am sure discouraged lots but at the same time encouraged some, explaining why there's a polarization in immigration.

wells ..makes sense. i mean if ur Lebanese and can speak French already then i'm sure it's a lot easier bringing up ur family in Quebec than in Ontario. on the flipside if your Chinese, it's probably a lot easier to speak English than French, since they teach English in places like Hong Kong since the British occupation there ..etc..
ahlamalek
yep exactly!

but why you guys keep saying lebanese hehehe, i'm not lebanese ;)

dude you must be an e-tard, what insecurity? where did I say montreal is better? Montreal and Toronto are two big cities, very different but also very similar due to a very diverse populace.

Your need to resort to personal insults further underlines your insecurities about Montreal.

You did not say it was better, you just compared it to Canada's financial, industrial and cultural capital.

Hey, people here have New York envy, and they're always trying to stack up to NYC.

Hmm, one would think that there must be some reason why so many Americans think that Toronto is the capital of Canada (other than the fact that they're friggin' stupid).

Whereas, if you've ever watched a TV show like This Hour Has 22 Minutes, you would realize in a second that very few people from outside of Canada have ever heard of Montreal, or Quebec. (P.S. I'm not basing this on TV shows, I'm basing it on several conversations with several Americans, I'm just using the show as an example).

I'm not trying to draw any comparisons at all in terms of quality of music or quality of nightlife or ethnic diversity - I've been to Montreal a few times and it's a truly awesome place to be. But there are lots of awesome places to go. Fact is, in terms of raw worldwide popularity and recognition, Toronto wins hands down.

Aside from the parties, I hate Toronto, it's too damn crowded and rushed, but let's not bend or deny the truth here.

For the love of god, all you #$&*ing Montreal TA's can flame Toronto in the Montreal forum, do you have to bring your circus act here? Some of us have more interesting things to talk about, so just
stfu, plz, thx.
