Started the night off in the Bar with Alan Simms on the 1's and 2's. Made a few muckups with his funky house selection but hes excused for having one arm in plaster lol. What hes not excused for is his gesture of a one fingered salute at gatecrasher13 ! Shame on you Alan. Your certainly not getting my vote for best NI DJ !
Into the Mendela Hall to hear the last hour or so of Phil Kieran. One word to describe it would be TECHNO! Marvellous!
At 12am the man we wanted to see came on to the wheels of steel, UMEK. His technical ability is amongst the best in the business, and his music is distinctive and energetic. Huge, funky basslines with smart, tough beats all layered and topped off with short vocal samples ensured total dancefloor devastation. The use of the EFX pad worked wonders with the crowd and it was used to perfection. Only tune I know of that he played was Umek - Jakaton but I know for certain other UMEK tunes were played which are off his album.
O by the way Fabio was spinning up in the Speakeasy! |
