Dj Astrid, Qontact resident, has mixed this new Qontact cd, just like the previous ones, which is available in the shops now. Astrid is slowly establishing her as one of the big DJ's in Holland and also in other countries like Israël she is getting really popular. She also performed at Trance Energy and is a resident at the popular Dutch club XL in Amsterdam. This cd is released to honour the Qontact party at new years eve in the Heineken Music Hall.
The start of the cd is little clubby and groovy with Milo - Jungle of Mirror followed by a remix of ITWT 8 mixer Ton T.B. which is a nice start of the mix, the tune has some mexican/spanish influences. Astrid continues with a gorgeous clubby trance tune called Unreal which sounds like a cross-over of Chocolate Puma - I wanna be you and a quality ITWT tune.
Trance Motion is mixed in, which contains a long break and a nice main lead, but the rest of the track is a little bit too empty. Now we get the really uplifting stuff with Antillas - I Will Find You 2002, which is a real killer track with great vocals. I don't really think this tune fits in this mix, but it is a nice track to listen to. Another killer is coming up, Prime Mover - The Weapon is mixed in, which got support from loads of big DJ's like Paul van Dyk and many others. A great breakdown and a driving bassline makes this a top notch track. Redstone - Triplet Feel is a not so interesting clubtrance track and is a little too repetitive. But then we arrive at the best track of this cd! A Situation - The Situation! What a slammer this track is, highspeed and some gorgeous synths make this a kickass trance journey.
Astrid switches to the harder side with the quite boring Backbeat remix. This tune is also way too monotone in my opinion. But the next track, Hard Beats, is a great track which will please fans of Cosmic Gate and DJ Garry. The R.A.F. of Capella - U Got To Know is an up to date remix of an old dance tune and is quite powerfull. After that the trancy side takes over again with Steve and Sven.
Astrid ends the cd with some kickass tracks then. The Connector remix of Don't Want Your Love is a warm and deep uplifting track, one of my favourites on this compilation as well. Then we come at a new Armin van Buuren remix of DJ Astrid - The Spell. I must say I was not very impressed with this remix by Armin. The vocals are nice and it is quite uplifting, yet not superb. The track has not been produced by DJ Astrid herself I think, because the booklet says it is produced by P.Bradford and B. Mitchell. The cd ends with the 2002 version of Cygnus X - Positron, which is a great track as well.
This a great cd, despite the fact that it contains some uninteresting tunes, there are also some new and unreleased gems included and the mixing is ok. People that want to see DJ Astrid perform should go to the massive Qontact party on 29th of April in Holland.

DJ ING ASTRID!?!?!? That stupid ing girl couldn't mix a drink. Iv never heard so many pile of mixes in my life. And to think, she has been playing for years!
Establishing herself as a big dj in holland? By giving, big BJ's... right? |
