OK...this is VERY HARD to explain.....
Ok if you have Win98 Explorer and you go into there is 2 columns...one on the left reading a tree (Desktop,My Computer, 3 1/2 Floppy, (C), (D), (E), Printers, Control Panel, Dial Up Networking, Scheduled Tasks, Web Folders, Recycle Bin) and the column on the right is the column that shows the files of each thing you click in the left column...thats the easy part...
OK i updated Internet Explorer 6 because i had to....and now for some reason when i open a MS Word DOC file through Windows Explorer and soemtimes when i empty Recycle Bin the weirdest thing happens...
The thing that happens is this:
I open the file/Empty Recycle Bin and in the left column in Windows Explorer with the tree setup all closes....only things i will be able to see/access are Descktop,Network and Recycle Bin....nothing else unless i close Windows Explorer and reopen will i see the rest of the things on the tree like (Desktop,My Computer, 3 1/2 Floppy, (C), (D), (E), Printers, Control Panel, Dial Up Networking, Scheduled Tasks, Web Folders, Recycle Bin).....
I thought it was Internet Explorer since i upgrded to it..that could explain the DOC file in a way...but the Recycle Bin causes it aswell...so i have no clue....
I have checked every setting on this dam computer and can not figure it out.....i updated Windows and it still happens....
I know it is hard to explain....best way is for you to go into Windows Explorer and click on the left next to My Computer and you see how everything closes and shrinks to just Desktop, My Computer, network and Recycle Bin??..well thats what happens exactley....
Very hard to explain....if you need more info ask...but i can not stand this anymore....please help
thanks |

Well, it's definitly your update that screwed everyhing up. Internet Explorer and Explorer are one and the same program, so that includes the Recycle Bin.

And again, this is definitly not a setting, but a bug :(, which sucks big time. I looked in the MS Knowledge Base but nothing came up, so.. i guess you should either go back to your previous internet explorer version or upgrade to Win2k op WinXP.. |

well your right it is a bug...because i just unistalled IE6 then tryed and the things on the left did not collapse like with IE6...so then i reinstalled IE6 and on the left in windows explorer everything collapses.....
There has to be a way to fix this without going to Win2000 because i know many people with Win98 that use IE6 without this problem....
is there any forums for this |

Well, the best thing is to look at the MS site, but I doubt your question can be answered there, worth a try though.
Other places to look:
www.google.com
sites of computermagazines
Many people use Win98, but this bug is probably due some hardware or software combination YOU use, so maybe you are like the one person alive to see it (he, be proud, you're special :p ;)). One thing that might also work: reinstall Win98 and first thing you do is install IE 6..
Hope you can find an answer to your problem! |
