Avoid the 700's with a passion. I took the finest care of mine, but the cans still snapped off the headband, and the left channel died. Not to mention, theyre quite uncomfortable after 10-15 minutes.

I now have Sony MDR v7506. They have great sound, arent flimsy like the 700's, and very comfortable on the ears. They run around $80-100. You can also get MDR v6's, which are about 60. They have the exact same cadns, just a different ear cuff and headband I think.

after buying my sonys and having them fail on me at the most crucial moment (5 mins before i was set to get on the decks at a rave this weekend)

and i took extra special care of mine once i found out what sort of flaws they have, but even with babying them, they still broke on me

i will NEVER buy another sony product again

there's nothing like scrambling around trying to find another set of cans just as the dj before you is about to finish
in the end i borrowed my friend's pair of pioneer headphones (not the 1000's, the model down)
i thought they did the job a whole lot better than my sonys and am really considering switching to pioneer (probably the 1000's if they use the same drivers)
but then again, there's also the sennheiser hd-25

i bought those headphones when i was just starting out and stupid

i don't know how the pros can stand mixing with those (i guess a couple grand does wonders to ease that pain)

and dj steve
how can you still defend those pieces of ?

literally it's like eating dog and asking for seconds

I have a pair of the sony headphones, I am not satisfied with them. There are better headphones for the money, most are listed in this thread.

DJ_Shockwav, were those your MDR-V500DJ's that broke on you?

Oh, yeah; I think everybody who defends the facken piece-of-shat MDR-VxxxDJ is a twat. :p

C'mon people, it's ridiculous to get so upset about headphones...

Anyway, here's an objective viewpoint.

Dj-Steve, I didn't maltreat my V700's a single bit. On a whole, I take very good care of my equipment, especially my DJ gear (headphones included!).

Keeping that in mind, the swivels on my V700's started to crack a few months after I got them. This was from using them at a level that I assumed would present no difficulty (especially for DJ phones!) - about moderate-slightly heavy use. But no "abuse" at all, per se. Anyway, after getting them fixed, I've "lowered" the use level to very little... I only use them now when practicing at home at high sound levels (for "simulating" a club etc), or when out spinning at loud levels (house parties and such). All in all, they amount to little use. My 7506's get more usage. But they can take it.

However what I really really want to say to you, Dj-Steve, is that it is pointless to try to convince others that, say, the V700's are "good" if they think they're "bad" (whatever those two mean). Likewise, it's even worse to be affected by others' opinions, especially emotionally!!!

Because, really, who are we? We're not you! And you matter, not us. It's like when someone gets a letter with bad news, and they get angry because of it, when they were previously happy. Stupid! Why should they get angry, because of a piece of paper?

Anyway this is getting somewhat philosophizing, so I'll stop. :) I hope you get my meaning, though.

Enjoy your phones! :D But I recommend you try some other phones too, you may be pleasantly surprised! :toothless

yea
other than the v6, i will never even think about putting a sony brand headphone on my ears again

i used to think they were decent enough for at least the bedroom dj...
not anymore
beginners, look into other options than the sony line, it's just not worth the trouble

By the way, I have headphones that are cutties - but they don't have the Sony name on them, and they aren't silver.

I heard nothing but good things about Pioneer 1000, but I'm not crazy enough to drop 150 USD for it though. I used to have MDR-700 but I've sold it, now I have MDR-600. I find the 600 much more comfortable to wear.

Can you say, out of the frying pan and into the fire?
