And furthermore... Something is gonna happen in North America in the next few years. The big time rich ass, money grubbing, record labels are finally gonna get wise and realize that there is a HUGE market for electronic music in North America.
Then the scene will grow even larger but also become more mainstream. However never to the extent of Holland. People are and will always be consumed in this Hip-Hop, Pop, Rock culture.
But trust me its already happening and once record companies start pumping money into our music radio stations will start to pop up. And Yes Toronto already CAN support an elecronic station. We got the numbers and the cash. Hmm just a matter of finding a spot on the dial or a company smart enough to make the jump. |

of course i want to spread the music, when i say NOOO when z 103 plays techno or trance i mean NOO as in it wil be come so commercial and this whole GINO culture...will become a techno culture...all the kids wil dress up in a certain way and wont even know anything about the music..just like all the ginos right now..u know what i mean
so what do u think about the future of the dj's or producers that are beginning right now...if the scene and the music market gets big about electronic music? |

if GINOS can ID a Stevie B track from all the freestyle then i'm sure they'll be able to ID a Dave Clarke track from all the techno .. the fact that we don't want certain ppl in our scene makes us no better than the snobs and posers that we often despise..
remember, it's all about acceptance and reaching out ..
it's all about the MUSIC .. :tongue2 |

Ya but those are purely night radio stations. Good music is all over the radio at night. Even good hip hop can be found. And community radio in general is really good if you know when to tune in. I once made a thread way back when about it.
And I told ya all the inside info on the politics of CIUT (89.5)and how One Groove came to be. Bad money management of the publicly funded station forced em to sell off their un-regulated time slots (12-5AM). But it was a one year contract and I think OneGroove basically wanted to create a customer base for its website. |

| from my understanding of things onegroove was bought out and the parent company pulled the plug on the live section of the show becasue there wasn't any money one their end of things (open to speculation as to why it changed once the parent [the iceberg media group] bought it. they had the 12-5am slot because radio time is rediculously expensive (thats obviously the cheepest time slots) and the permits take years to be approved to get a full station. I have a few friends running a pirate radio station out of Waterloo + Kitchener that focuses on D+B and Jungle primarily. I've heard the hell stories first hand as to what it takes to even do that, let alone a legal station (which they tried for first, seriously tried for) |

Cool thanks for the Info. Didn't really know exactly why oneGroove ended.
I was right in the middle of the turmoil b4 onegroove came on the air. Both my Dad and a house guest had radio shows on CIUT at the time (my dad still does an African Music show right b4 Prophecy's sunday nightjungle show). There was a huge battle about the change had meetings in my house all the time.
Like I said CIUT was going through major financial difficulties at the time. Their night time slots are not regulated by the CRTC so essentially they could sell it off to commercial enterprise. I belive OneGroove/IceBerg paid $20 000 for their contract. |

hrmmzzz.. very interesting indeed.. thanks for the link !
i was talking to Zale from GlobalGroove networks at the 1 YEar Viva party .. and he was telling me more about it too .. what i don't understand was why there was technopolis on 100.7 FM first.. then all of a sudden everything moved onto 89.5 FM ..?!? wtf.. |

ya know what .. come to think of it, this is really all a HUGE shame.. i used to listen to onegroove radio on 89.5 FM back in 98/99 before i really started gettin into the TO scene .. and Dr. Trance's technopolis show on Fridays nights was byfar the best..
when u look at it, when was the last time u heard DJ Tiesto, Ferry Corsten, Dave Clarke, Blank & Jones, etc.. spin LIVE on TORONTO radio not to mention that Dr. Trance was probably the most qualified interviewer for any guest DJ on a Toronto trance radio station (since he does have a radio DJ's VOICE!) and not only that but he was a natural at it. i know a lot of you here just got into the scene in late 2001 and 2002 .. but if u had a chance to listen to some of the shows on the old 89.5 FM u'd know what i mean .. ! damn shame.. ! :( |

en eh....
if it weren't for ginos and all the people who listen to z103, do you think we'd even have enough people at guv or viva to attract gielen or ferry corsten???? how many "real" trance fans do you think are out there? you don't have to be on tranceaddict.com, or know all the new tracks to enjoy the music. if people can hear a good track on z103 and enjoy it then thats fine... the more the merrier... i'm hoping to see something like trance energy in canada in my lifetime. but it won't happen if people keep putting other people down. everyone deserves to listen to trance, even if they know diddly about it... |
