A Way To Stop N00b's In Their Tracks
View this Thread in Original format

Pretty simple, make more sticky threads. I doubt there will be nearly as many DC threads, favourite live set/song threads, etc. It may kind of suck only because there will be lot's of stickey threads and you'll have to scroll down to see the other threads but in the end it may be worth it. Basically the most common threads would probably be:

Favourite Artist/Song/Liveset/Album
Where Do You Get Your Music/Program Difficulties

any opinions on the suggestion or any other input on other sticky threads. I think that the two threads I wrote above would help cut down on a lot of the posting, any other comments?

wont work, they generally dont look at/read the stickies

and you're right, it would clutter the board, i think there is 7 sticky MD threads as it is

A pop-up would be cool but would annoy people. Not sure if theres a way so that for their first 5 posts or so whenever they go to post a thread that something pops up and tells them what not to post but I'm not sure how possible/hard/usefull that would be. If only there was another way to let them know but oh well.

Everyone hates when the threads are posted but some things just can't be helped.

anything that will get them to stop making a new thread to introduce themselves. im sorry but i find that kinda of annoying! (dont flame, no harm intended)

I'd have to agree. First we have almost none of them and some n00b decides to post a hello I'm a n00b thread and everyone else jumps on the bandwagon :whip: , all of a sudden they think being a n00b and annoying is is funny i.e. calling their threads I'm a n00b don't hurt me, of course we want to hurt you, theres just certain restrictions like the distance between us and legal action thats stopping us you :whip:
Coup
hahah we had an idea once of banning n00bs from making new threads until they had been on the boards x length of time / posted x times, lmao :p
arj1o1
make a stickey thread @ chillout room where they can introduce them selves
miss_e
theyre not worthy enough for a sticky thread
coup: that doesnt make sense.
kill the n000bs

He means they can post in other peoples threads but not create their own. Does make sense but like it's been said before not all n00b's are complete dumbasses. Though the ones who are should be publically flogged

imo, you take it WAAAAY to seriously...

in a bad mood??? being pissed off??? go masturbate and relax:D. otherwise just ignore the threads/posts... if some newbie irritates you, simply put him on ignore list. you bash them, but, for example, what irritates me more is post-padding thread that "s33ns" (senior members:)) create to elevate their status and become more "heavyweight" with their post count in the eyes of other people.
all the newbies have the right to be looked at as interesting people who can engage in an interesting conversation. if someone posts a thread that's been posted 10000 times before, there are mods for that to take appropriate actions (closing/moving/deleting or whatever).

i'm for a special "Newbie" forum, where all the common topics should be stickied (like "Introduce yourself" and "Favorite Producer" and "Top 10 of all times" and "How to d/l mp3s - the usage of napster.com") and all the "inappropriate" thread by newbies should be moved to.

I don't think I take it too seriously, it's just a suggestion to help cut down on the extra threads and how annoying it can be when we see the same topic every day practically. It doesn't piss me off but it can annoy me sometimes along with a lot of other members. I don't know what post-padding has to do with this but I don't much like that either and I think the threads should just be deleted right away and outlawed. I do believe that all n00b's deserve a chance. I never said every n00b is stupid and posts dumb threads but what angers me is ones who don't use the search button or even check the same page before posting. I saw a few soulseek threads on the music discussion page and a few minutes later theres another one. I can understand making a mistake when their new and not using the search button but when it's on the same page? If you can't take two seconds to even see if theres the same topic on the page your on then don't bother posting. A n00b forum is another good idea and I hate it as much as you do, not something that will keep me up at night but annoys me nonetheless.

yeah, it was irritating for me like a year ago (when i saw "what's you favorite vocal/nonvocal/trance/nontrance/mellow/hard/tech/chillout/old/new track..." threads to emerge every other 10 minutes)... but then i just simply started to ignore it. to be truthfully honest, it doesn't bother me now almost at all, and i simply make an extra scroll... actually, it makes me laughing, when i see another hub thread and wonder how blind/stupid people can be. but there are mods for that, and they should be dealing with those types of things.

i saw newbie forums on many community sites, and it was really nice indeed: people intuitively posted in those forums all their rather basic questions. it might sort the things out on this forum too.
