I was just wondering at live sets, how do they mix songs w/ so many layers together? Like, do they premake the songs and just 'pretend' to change the records periodically?

| I think it's mostly skill over cheating. |

| huh?? i believe the DJ's actually practice their skills and do it right. not by pre-producing some cheap . |

| huh? what? i think we got the blind leading the blind here.. ok im not a dj but this is what happens.. i dont know how good im gonna be at explaining this cause i dont know nothing bout being a dj. i just have an idea of what theyre doing. a dj puts on one record right and its playing. then he put on the other record that he wants to mix with it but he doesnt have the sound playing out the speakers just into his headphones for him to hear. so each of the records have beats and he listens to both of them and gets the second records beats to fall in line w/ the first records beats(or at least this is what i think they do i dont really know much about mixing) once he does that and hes got the beats lined up and hes at the point where he wants to begin the mix then he turns up the 2nd record. and that makes a mix. k i hope that makes some kind of sence if not youll have a dj come in here and give you the right answer soon... and also songs usually arent mixed at the parts where there are tons of layers being heard.. usually the ends and beginnings of songs are being mixed and theres not as many layers in those parts. actually i really dont know this just seems right to me. lol.. peace! |

I can't understand that you have questions about this Zokle, why would they do that, they were gifted with this skill from heaven, they would be very bored if they only would be pretending |

yup yup. it does require lotsa skillz too. i mean catering to the crowd's mood on the fly with your trackz? speeding them up, slowing them down, fading them, crossfading...etc, etc. not to mention the tracklisting and beatmatching and . :)
