well... it was bound to happen!! 80 gigs of all the stuff that mattered the most to me.... 40 Gigs of Mp3s, tons of pictures I took (4-5000), all the videos I made at Aria, 10-15 gigs of warez :D and some other i can't remember right now...

Anyone knows of a company that do data recovering in Montreal??? I can't loose all that stuff and do nothing about it...

(All mp3s donations are welcome ;)) hehehe

:( :( :( :(

damn, tell me about it...last week one of my hard disks started making strange noises, which means that it was about to fail...it was a 40 almost full gigz drive...
i immediately went and got myself a brand new 80 gigz drive and copied everything onto it really fast

that was scary :eyes:

i dunno about data recovery companies, but i can ask for u...

goodluck man!
RnakR
you dont have any backups ??!!!
Ortemy
When u have sooo much data, NEVER keep it on one hard drive, allways run backups...
Good luck, Malek, same thing happened to me last year :( I could not recover anything, but it was a virus, that destroyed everything.

of course I have some backup, but its very hard to keep up the backs up for a 80G drive, it takes a looong burning session everytime... well my 40G mp3s aren't backed up for sure. And I'm missing some aria videos now... the only places I know where they are in Syria and the US:(
discojoe
ya heh it is kind of hard to back up 80 gigs

Malek as you said try to find those companies that do DD backups !!! and i'm really sorry for your 80g :(

Just about any Aria videos that you've posted I"ve still got, unless it was something you were working on, if you need it just ask

i could get all the clips from Aria site, but there's still some clips that were never posted. Also a 22 minutes movies of Mauro Picotto.... where am I gonna find it ?

I found a solution to any future hard drive failures.

Get 2 identical drives. let say 2 times 80 G and run them in RAID. Whatever you have on the first disk will be automatically copied on the second. if one fails, the other is safe.

Malek,

If you really want to try and get your stuff back you can try this company in Ottawa http://www.datarecoveryservices.com/ from what I hear they can work miracles. Although I think it can get expensive.. it all depends on what the problem is. You can ship the drive there and they will give you a quote.

As for the RAID setup (RAID 1 in your example) you should try and use hardware RAID controller. The last software RAID setup I used slowed down my PC allot.
