Global Gathering gets go ahead

A major dance festival in Warwickshire has been given the go-ahead by licensing officials for later this year.

Organisers of Global Gathering, an all-night dance festival staged by Birmingham superclub Godskitchen, have been granted a public entertainment licence for the event on July 26 and July 27.

Last years event attracted 35,000 revellers and top dance DJs to Long Marston Airfield, near Stratford, but local residents complained about major congestion and parking problems around the site.

The road between Stratford and the airfield was jammed from early Saturday afternoon to the evening, and again on Sunday morning as people left.

It will be the third time the event has been held at the airfield.

Paul Reid, senior licensing officer at Stratford District Council, said the organisers of the 36-hour party were granted the licence after nearly six hours of detailed discussions.

He said: Last year there were various problems with traffic management, parking, noise and signage but the organisers submitted a very detailed plan for this years event.

Their traffic plan has been drastically updated and reviewed, so should be more than adequate to keep any problems to a minimum.

At the event last year, there were eight arrests and 14 people were taken to Warwick Hospital for treatment. Seven of those were for drug-related illnesses but they were not life-threatening.
