Misstress Barbara was here twice last year.....Pascal F.E.O.S. and Marco Carola as well, Richie Hawtin, Dave Clarke, Mauro Picotto, Chris Liberator, Dave The Drummer the list goes on.....and i agree with fantom, you need to bring in DJ's who is pretty well known to bring out the people to these parties. Mauro is coming in March, so if you want 10 years worth of techno come see him at System.

ya i know pascal feos and carola were at systems in spring of last year.. but the thing is when there's a good techno party in town, there's smtn else really wikkid in town, and i can't go to two places at once.. (ie. carola/schoenemann @ systems & derrick may at roxyblue) :conf:

it's also cuz promotors know which dj to bring into town in order to jack up the ticket prices and fill up the dancefloor...
there are so many trance parties with commercial dj's (not all) now... why don't some of the promotors bring some of the dj's i named like.. jel ford, funk d'void, oxia trevor rockliffe.. this are some great english/french producers and dj's spinning groovy funky tekkno tunes...

it's true that 83.932% of the ppl here have never even heard of these techno stars, and it is for this reason why they should come in town - smtn differnt, good, but new..

what u think? ;) [/QUOTE

Ya I don't think there's a big enuff techno scene to merit that type of talent.

Mike "Deko-ze" agreed with me the other day that even the trance scene has shrunk over the past couple of years. He hasn't seen Dr. Trance since like the summer and theres tonnes of other people who have just dropped off the map.

The electronic music scene as a whole has gotten smaller. Back underground it seems. We don't get all the publicity of a few years ago when we were all considered "ravers". It's back to basics for us. Thank God Viva's around or I don't know what I'd do.

I dont know if i can agree with you on that. The electronic music scene is only getting better IMO. Just take a look at the talent that Toronto is getting in the next month alone and im sure thatll back up my statement. Sure the "rave" scene has died down considerably in the past couple of years, but as far as that talent is concerned for Toronto clubs, its almost comparable to the talent that the UK gets regularly.

i think what he means that the Toronto local scene has died off considerably. As local DJ's were usually the ones who were co-running the old rave promotion companies. Toronto is growing a craving now for international talent.. just look at TOTA, many of us wait for a big international DJ to play here before we'll head out for a party when often we won't even bother to look in our backyard for upcomming talent. Then again, I would be generalizing if I said that since I often read other msg. boards and ppl on other sites seem to still support to the local scene a lot. I guess TA just has a hardon for foreign DJ's or something .. :D

Desidel has it right. Trance or the whole scene isn't dying. I'm just saying there are less parties, less venues to choose from and fewer people participating. There's not as much media coverage. And the whole "rave" fad has died off.

The international talent coming here is AMAZING. And I love Viva for that. I'm just trying to say that in terms of choice, there are not as many people throwing parties as there were out there 2 yrs ago. There gone.

And hypothetically speaking say Viva closed. What other alternatives do we have? Guv, System, Koolhaus?.....none of which IMO are anywhere close to the notoriety that they were at a few years ago. Take for example "Turbo" niteclub and Systems Sound Bar. In 2000-2001 I'd have to hide in my basement to not know what was going on that friday. Now.....I dunno if Turbo even exists and Systems is a skeleton of its former self. Remember Industy night club and Commander Tom....WTF happened to that place.

I dunno maybe Viva has stolen everyones thunder and thats why we get sooooo many GREAT parties up there and none in the city. Nonetheless I still feel that there is a gaping void in the place where the whole electronic music scene was before.

So thats just my two cents. Viva owns j00, meh and Trance, and everyone else is either an also ran or dead.
