More a combination of progressive and techhouse (well, depends on the venue etc, but because this is a solo, I think you'll hear both).
I've seen him a few times, and in my opinion he's good!

Lucien Foort a.k.a. Funk Function is a 30 year old musician from Rotterdam who's currently rocking the world as a producer and DJ.
Lucien Foort has recently become one of the hottest DJ / Producers around. With a popular progressive and tech house sound he is sure to become a hot ticket.
Living in Rotterdam, Holland, Lucien has a well educated musical training.
8 years music school combined with 5 years saxophone and orchestra education.
Lucien started DJ'ing at the age of 14 one Sunday afternoon at a friends house, asked if he liked it, he loved it and progressed from there.
With the first record he ever bought, Beat Street, he was soon well on his way to spinning some great tunes. From DJ'ing for friends to DJ'ing for real, his first ever gig was at Club Carrerra in Rotterdam back in '94.
From Lucien's well educated musical background, he was always going to be a success story.
When it comes to production Lucien has remixed for labels such as Bedrock, Positiva, 3 Beat, Cyber and React.
Lucien is also well known for his Dutch Liquid Productions which were more favoured by the likes of Carl Cox. Whilst his funk function productions have been repeatedly compiled on compilations from DJ's like Sasha, John Digweed, Nick Warren, Dave Seaman and Seb Fontaine.
The year 2001 sees Lucien's 'Singularity vol.2' released on United Records With a BBC Radio One Essential mix, Lucien will continue to show us how powerful his funky melodic, tech house sound can really be.
He belongs to the favorite producers of well-respected DJ/producers like Sasha: "I am quit fond of Lucien Foort, his stuff is ing amazing. Funky as hell. He programs his drums beautifully, his records have an amazing groove and feeling of house.
Further, they can easily be used in a trance set, which is very rare." When he first came in contact with dance music, some twelve years ago, Lucien had no idea how big it was going to be.
Lucien: "Where I had hopes to see it evolve more melodically, it shifted towards the use of dry hard sounds and aggressive beats. In my productions I've always tried to make adrenaline and melody collaborate, trying to create layer after layer of sounds that interact, while the groove train takes off. I've always liked English bands like Leftfield, Dust Brothers [now Chemical Brothers], Fluke and Underworld because of their tight productions and high sound-quality level. Apart from that, they've inspired me to dig deeper into my Funk Function productions without having to hold back".
"In 1994 I visited the Ministry Of Sound Club in London, where I first heard Sasha and John Digweed play. Now, six years later, I see my DJ-ing expand internationally. And thanks to the success of the Funk Function tracks I find myself being asked to do remixes for John's Bedrock label, have Sasha, Nick Warren, Dave Seaman compiling my tunes on their compilations, guys I have respected for a long time. Apart from the UK, America has got a strong scene with DJ's like Chris Fortier and Jimmy van Malleghem strongly supporting the Deeper Dance Vibe. In Holland it's starting to surface. Because of my strong affiliation with the deeper musical side of dance music I was very happy when I got the opportunity to shape the compilation series Singularity. It contains strong quality tunes that last and make you feel as if you've reached a point at which space-time has taken an infinite value.....and for the first time experienced dance".

Do you mean Club Stalker in Haarlem?? I hate to disappoint you, but that club SUX big time :nervous:!! Lot of weirdos hanging out there and a rather cold atmosphere... the decoration of the place is also ugly as hell and it's very small :(
I've seen Lucien Foort a couple of times, and it was ok. Not my favorite kind of music, but I liked it. So you can try the Stalker and see for yourself if you like it ;). I haven't been there in 9 months or so, maybe they've changed it... |
