pioneer efx-500 help please

hi i recently bought a pioneer efx,
everything seems to be fine except for one small glitch which is pissing me off imensly. i have to crank my send / return volumes up REALLY high to actually hear an effect this results in the effect output being WAY louder then the original one (not to mention maximum distortion) so if you goto a effect and back theres this huge jump in volume, (for some reason if its not this loud i cant hear the effects its like its not going through the box at all or just really low), does anyone know what i mean? its pretty frustrating as i really wanna use it! ive tried everything including using rca cables (instead of my phone jacks), adjusting the input level at the back (-4db - +10db which makes little differance but not much) and fiddling around with the volumes on both the efx-500 and my mixer for hours (mixer is a vestax pcv 275 with send/return inputs by the way)
please help!

thanks in advance
jehan

ps. also i find the trans volume is alot lower then say... the flanger, is this normal?

There are a few things you can try. Change up your inputa and effects levels at the top EQ portion of the unit. That may do the trick. As for the send and return, try going from your mixer to the EFX then directly to the amp w/o using the send or return. This would give you effects without switching an effects loop. Good luck

(I hope this makes sense)
