Some q's about CDs and CD Burning

1. All CD's sold today can hold up to 80 min. of audio, right?
(And all CD players can play those CDs.)

So why doesn't my burner let me put more than 73 min. on the CDs?
I got it a couple of years ago -- maybe that's why? Do all modern CD burners support full-80-min. CD's?

2. What is a good, stable, free program for designing the layout of the disc (the inserts, the outer slip, etc.)? The ones that come with CD burners are usually ty. Mine, from HP CD-Writer Plus, sucks ass. It can't insert a GIF file, can't draw a rectangle, GPFs every 5 min., and can't save some layouts.
:whip:
So, I need a good and usable CD layout designer; any advice?

3. All professional CD's have glossy inserts and sheets. Why is it so hard to find glossy-paper layouts? Companies like Avery, etc. either don't offer anything glossy, or only 1 side of the double-folding insert.

4. If you go to a store and buy a pack of recordable CD's, you'll notice that they all have a "black" (or colored) "rim"; usually black, not transparent. But most professional CD boxes are 100% transparent, including this "rim." Where can I find those?

Thanks

1. the cds must be 80 min cds not 74 min cds

2. Use photoshop and choose the size of the image you want

3. Most places like Circuit City, Best Buy etc should have stuff like that

4. they are clear for me.

They are.
My CDs are TDK-80, but the program sets the limit at 74.

So then you'd have to compute all the margins and stuff, is this how people normally print labels and inserts?

Looked everywhere, CompUSA, CircuitCity, BestBuy, don't have 'em, only the amateurish rough-paper ones

I can't believe it
I have NEVER been able to find a consumer pack of recordable CDs with a transparent "rim"! Always either black or colored, but always opaque... hm.. are you sure we're talking about the same thing?

Older CD burners don't let you burn CD-R's over 74 mins... This is the case with my borther's burner as well, so he keeps askin me to burn those 74+ mins CDs.. which is annoying. :)

you should use NERO for burning purposes. It's the all-around best burning progrma whether it's burning backup data cds, audio cds, vcd stuff, etc.

I'm not sure about cd inserts and such, I saw them at Best Buy the other day.

is it independent of the hardware? (i.e. CD-burner)
and free+stable? no spyware/adware?
