Opinions on ATB (not AVB)

I have hardly heard anyone mention ATB (Andrew Tannenberger) on this forum.
What are people's opinions on him? Some people claim (quote) that "ATB ain't no trance", and in fact much of his stuff is slow. Others say he's "cheesy." Yet he's better-known than Tiesto, for instance, among the less-initiated, shall we say, audience.
Personally I don't like him, his music does nothing for me. Can he be put into the same league as his fellow German DJ's, PvD and Taucher, for example? |

ATB's sound is much like darude's simple and quite frankly. BORING. yes it's cheesy and he's much more well-known to the general audience because he's 100x more commercial than pvd or tiesto.
ATB's productions are total cheese and i can't stand listening to them at all. i've heard two of his songs 9 pm and don't stop. that's all i really need to hear. heh.
but his livesets aren't AS bad. he spins a pretty decent set sometimes. but definitely lacks the technicalities and uniqueness that makes pvd, pvd or tiesto, tiesto. |

| there are some good things and bad things about him. Frankly, in my opnion of where I live, if they get a variety of trance rather then just terrible artists like DJ Mystik (DJ Mother__Nut), DJ Epic (DJ XTC_Gimp), DJ Fuzion (Chinese one not the European one) (DJ edintheass. |

ATB's "Movin' Melodies" album kicks ass...
A lot of unique quality trance tunes on there...
Let's keep in mind that ATB is more ambient trance than normal trance, so his stuff is a lot softer...
His newest album is not trance in the least... it's like new-age or something... It's good to chill to, but that's about it...
Yall have got to admit you liked 9pm when it first came out... especially with all the wicked remixes :)
Oh yeah, and I was sold on the fact that he's now 100% commercialized when I saw a dance compilation called "Dance 2000" mixed by ATB, with the cheesiest bunch of tracks I've ever seen in my life

Yeah, when 9pm came out I couldn't understand what all the fuss was about, either.
People were worshipping it like something real big. In truth you couldn't even dance to it, at least the original 3-min. mix that was like 130 bpm.
His stuff doesn't have any tension, any build-up. It's too slow and mellow. |
