Do you listen to dance music the same way you listen to classical or rap?

I was reading a book by the famous American composer Aaron Copland about how to judge a piece of music, and it brought an interesting question to mind:
In your mind,, is what makes a piece of classical music good the same as what makes a trance track good, or a rock song good, or a rap tune good? Do you listen for the same things when your listening to different kinds of music, or do you listen for different things in all the different kinds? |

It all depends on how your ears have been trained to like music.
When i listen to music well with trance I love it if it can evoke a mood in me.
But if i listen to rock, i mainly listen to the lyrics and see how everything else blends...... but that doesnt happen much cause i am all tranced out right now..... cant get enuf. |

When I'm buying records I tend to listen to 3 things:
If I like the tune
If it makes me want to dance
If I find it musically interesting
When I'm listening to rock or Classical or Jazz, some of the things I listen for are the same, but some are different. |

| In my experience, listening to rock and hip hop is more about breaking down the lyrics and the beat; trance is more relaxing because you don't worry about lyrics as much, and you can just let melody carry you away (although the same thing could probably be said of classical i guess). |

| all i care about is the melody and if the track has a good melody (not a catchy melody but a good one) i could care less about the genre altho i have yet to find a country or rap song w/ a melody i like :toothless |

| Anything which I can really feel (oftentimes that means a sort of nice, driving melody) is what I like regardless of the genre. |

| yeah I guess I look for the same thing in all the genres of music and thats emotions, if the track has no emotions I dont really like it |

| When i listen to trance i listen for a certain melody that evokes this emotion in me. Its that feeling you get when you here a great melody like OMG this is great. Its like the perfect melody. When listeining to rap, i have to listen to it twice the first time i listen i listen just for beats, later i listen to the lyrics to hear if theyre talking about nething. |
