oh! you're soo right! the smell varies from brand to brand. I find that masters choice/presidents choice smell theeeeee worst...more expensive popcorn like Orville Redenbaker(?) don't have an AS bad smell, but it still reeks... |

One of my dorky housemates last year (who fortunately is no longer living with us this year) would always, ALWAYS burn his microwave popcorn, and the entire house would smell like ass for the whole night.

You leave it in for too long. (Easy to do if you're following the instructions, which say "pop for 2-5 minutes") Gee Mr. Redenbacher, that's an awfully big window of time for that popcorn to burn! |

I'm getting better and better at it.
I can microwave near perfect tasting popcorn with only 5-10 unpopped ones left.

Same here. It says between 2 to 5 min? So you put the timer on or around 2:30. Simple as that. No burning. |

Highroller, you said you burn it because it's hard to microwave it so all the kernels pop, but your first post in this thread was all about how you love those partially popped kernels!
So how do you explain THAT huh? |

I've been mircowaving popcorn for a good 9 or 10 years now (does that make me a veteren? I wonder if it's worth putting on a resume) and I think I've got it done pat. I set it for 4 minutes, let it do it's thing until 1:20 left, thats when my finger touches the stop button (touches not presses) I then wait for the popping process to weaken (usually the 1:15 mark) then it's go time! It's the perfect solution to getting the most popped kernals without burning any!...what's that you say? "why don't you just put it in for 2:45 dumb?" well I thought that too but it's just not the same! it's like the microwave gets weaker as the time runs down. This is the formula for success!
P.S. is anyone else wondering why we're taking this popcorn mastering technique so seriously? :crazy: |
